An anonymous call was received at Aliya institute in Crown Heights Tuesday afternoon that an individual who is renting space in the youth center’s basement was storing illegal substances there.
The basement is rented by a Lubavitch male, who uses the space for storage and work-related use.
The center’s director Rabbi Moshe Feiglin contacted the police, who arrived at about 5:00 pm Tuesday afternoon to investigate.
Upon searching the cluttered basement, they indeed discovered a large quantity of a variety drugs, as well as an AR 15 assault rifle, a second rifle and a pellet gun.
The officers confiscated them and went in search of their owner. They soon caught up with him and placed him under arrest.
Aliya’s director expressed amazement at the turn of events.
“We had no idea,” he told COLlive. “I am shocked that he would be so stupid as to hide illegal substances in the basement of a Chabad moisad and youth center.”
