A memorial event will be held Wednesday, November 26 to mark the Shloshim – 30 days since the passing of Mrs. Miriam Slater OBM, who passed away at the age of 60.
Mrs. Slater was loved and respected by many in the community for her quiet acts of goodness and kindness, one of the unsung heroes of Crown Heights where she lived for over 36 years with her husband R’ Michoel and her family.
She was known to live with the famous saying of our Rabbeim “Tracht gut vet zain gut” – “Think good and it will be good.” As that was her motto, it was also engraved on her Matzeiva, in the Montefiore Cemetery in proximity to the Ohel.
Quiet by nature but determined to do acts of goodness and kindness whenever the occasion presented itself, Miriam was a constant volunteer for many of the community organizations, including NCFJE, Soul to Soul, Bikur Cholim and Lubavitch Yeshiva, among others. She formed lasting relationships with all who came into her sphere as was witnessed by the unusually large attendance at her Levaya and during the week of Shiva.
The community will have a chance to show their appreciation for all her good deeds at the Shloshim gathering to be held at Lubavitch Yeshiva at 8:00 pm.
The guest speaker will be Rabbi Yaakov Klar, LMSW, Chai Lifeline Crisis Intervention Team Associate Director, who will speak on the topic “How to provide chesed for people in need.” Addressing the gathering will also be NY Shliach Rabbi Boruch Jacobson as well as family members.
Details will also be announced about a website being designed in her memory.
