another Buffalonian remembers
November 3, 2014 12:14 pm

I too first started daavening in Ahavas Achim when I was a young teenager in junior high and high school. Many in the congregation were Holocaust survivors or old time Buffalonians who had managed to keep their orthodoxy in tact despite the social pressure to go Conservative. This shul holds many fond memories for me. The worn but polished pews, the daavening, the little kiddush in the basement – even walking there from my suburban home just over the city line into what felt like the Old World was special. Just about the only young person there – early to… Read more »

So many experts on so many issues
October 31, 2014 3:57 pm

How blessed are we that so many readers are such expert in halacha, and so many other fields
This was a beautiful piece. PERIOD
It is bout a very emotional issue that some can really relate and some can’t even begin to understand (B’H)
Let’s just leave it at it

emotional

I think it was worth all the effort to produce this video, i really enjoyed it from begining to end, my thought is that it would give his parents much nachas if he ate kosher (see his parents restaurant name), or did some mitzvhas in his fathers honor

Soo sad

That he lets himself be emotional about his past but doesn’t let it permeate him and affect his practical life.
If only he would stand up for his people more often instead of attacking them… If only he would continue the jewish chain…

My father Chaim G. and Dovid Blitzer were first cousins. My father’s mother was a Sher and Dovid Blitzer’s mother was a Sher. I vaguely recall meeting Reb Dovid as a young child..As a child in Poland , he dressed in chassideshe garb and wore langeh payes.. However, I never had any contact with his son Wolf.

BUT.... (another side of Blitzer)
October 30, 2014 10:46 am

Isn’t Wolf Blitzer the guy whose career skyrocketed when he broke his promise with interviewee Jonathan Pollard, which then led to a harsher prison sentence, since the Press and Pollard were not supposed to be in contact before sentencing? For the show “60 Minutes,” (if I’m not mistaken) Blitzer had interviewed Pollard, and Blitzer promised to not air this interview until after sentencing (in order to keep Pollard out of trouble for contact with the press). But Blitzer’s promise was broken, and the interview aired before sentencing. Wolf Blitzer, you have to look yourself in the mirror every day and… Read more »

Maybe this will awaken him and his self-hating, jewish anti-semitic ways and diatribe on CNN.
Look back at his interviews and opinions and commentating during the kidnapping and killing of our three innocent boys and Israel’s follow up in Gaza.
Halevie this should awaken his neshomo to support and true loyalty to his jewish family.

to be nonjudgmental to you and your thoughts here, I can in a way understand your point, yes halacha is halacha, and we must abide by them, always, however, as the saying goes “rules are made to be broken” in yiddishkeit there are the basic every day life as we conduct our daily living, halacha keeps us in tact and in touch with who we are, nevertheless, there are times when we rise above who we are and our daily life, in a way where we become a super power. getting in touch with our “yichuda sh’benefesh” dismissing the materialistic… Read more »

CHILD of HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR
October 29, 2014 7:36 pm

I, too, am a Child of Holicaust Survivors!
This is a very moving & touching video. I’m originally from South Africa, & I never knew ANY of my Grandparents, Aunties/Uncles……they all perished!
Mr Blitzer, you’re a very brave man to have gone to your late grandparents’ & parents’ hometowns! Aushvitz was as far & as much as my Neshama could handle!
Thank you COL for publishing this article. It moved me to many tears, allowing me to reminisce my childhood memories of growing up in a home of “survivors”!

A. Who was your “halach” addressed to? A yid a tinok shenishba who obviously was experiencing a tremendess hisoraruss of his pinteleh yid…
B. It happens to be that There are times when kaddish can be said with less then 10.
C.seem that there are some who have a severe allergic reaction to something that may inspire them so they put up defensis by finding fault as to weaken the hisorirus. Kinda like an aidele amalek.
Nebach.

A Buffalonian
October 29, 2014 5:11 pm

When I was young I used to daven with his father Reb Duvid Blitzer A”H in a Shul called Ahavas Achim Lubavitz which was a merger of two shuls Ahavas Achim and Anshei Lubavitz (that was active in Buffalo in the 1800s) Reb Duvid always had a smile and would wish me a Good Shabbos and pinch me on the cheek! A fellow bunkmate In Auschwitz of Mrs Blitzer passed away this year who was in the first car to Auschwitz when it opened up and lived until the liberation. She was called the Angel of life as she worked… Read more »

His Parents Went to Chabad
October 29, 2014 4:03 pm

Inspiring! Until his father passed away in 2002, his parents used to attend the Rosh Hashana retreat with Chabad and Rabbi Pinny. I believe they used to also go to Chabad Ocean Synagogue with Rabbi Dovid Kudan.
May he continue to pursue his Yiddishe roots and only report Besuros Tovos for Klal Yisroel & CNN Breaking News that Moshiach is here!
