Update:
Following the third yahrtzeit, Chaim Mayzlesh notified that the goal of 1,000 hachlatos taken on in memory of R’ Moshe Abelsky obm has been fulfilled.
Notes were distributed in Ohoei Torah for the boys to fill in their hachlatos, many of which are in the comments section of COLlive below.
The winner of the raffle for a $100 gift card is Mendel Spielman, comment number 156.

“The Baal Shem Tov’s Ahavas Yisrael was beyond imagination. The Maggid said: If only we could kiss a Sefer Torah with the same love that my Master kissed the children when he took them to Cheder…”
– Hayom Yom 16 Tamuz
Alef Cheshvan marks the third Yahrtzeit of R. Moshe Abelsky a”h.
R. Moshe was a cherished member of Oholei Torah staff, beloved by the hundreds of students he cheerfully greeted every day. R. Moshe magnificently personified the teaching of Pirkei Avos: “…and receive every person with a cheerful countenance.” (1:15)
A brand new music video has been released, paying tribute to R. Moshe’s memory.
Inspired by many wonderful memories of R. Moshe, Oholei Torah student Chaim Mayzlesh composed ”Don’t Let It Get You Down” (‘”DLIGYD”).
Director extraordinaire Danny Finkelman and musician Fitche Benshimon were immediately drawn to Chaim’s heartfelt message and, together, they collaborated to produce “DLIGYD”.
In the spirit of increasing in Acts of Goodness and Kindness in honor of R. Moshe, please post your Hachlata Tova in the comments section. All participants will be entered in a raffle – you must provide a full name or a valid email address to be contacted. COLlive has graciously sponsored a $100 dollar Amazon gift card for the raffle winner.
The raffle will iy’H take place on Sunday night. Help us reach our goal of 1,000 Hachlotos Tovos in memory of R. Moshe.
May our collective effort bring about the complete and final redemption Bekorov Mamash!

Although Moshe was my son’s bus driver for only one short year I want to say that Moshe always greeted him with a smile and sweet Good Morning! and knew his name. He was pleasant to speak to and made the transition to Yeshiva from playgroup and easy one for my son. We miss you Reb Moshe, may your neshama have an Aliya! as a Hachlata for 30 days I will make sure my kids have Negel Vasser by their beds, or I will bring it later. Moshiach Now!
Mendel spiel man,
you deserve every bit of the prize you have one.

this song is so inspiring! the smile part made me smile too:) may we see moshe in ירושלים right now!
I was once playing/fighting outside my house with my brother when suddenly Moshe passed by, and when he saw us fighting, he said: “Come on guys, stop fighting, if you want you could come with me to my house and we’ll learn something very interesting. As a foolish boy, I declined. (Until today, I regret that and don’t forgive myself! What a great opportunity I had!
Therefor my Hachloto is to put a bigger effort in learning.
I was on the bus and the bus got to my house, Moshe let me off, I rang the bell and no one was home. Moishe was waiting the whole time! and then he finally told me to come back on the bus. And he took me back later when my parents got home, which shows the devotion, care and responsibility to always make sure every boy was safe!!! S.S.

My son’s day would always start with a warm smile and greeting from Moishe. Even now 15 years later Moishe still always had a warm smile for my son. Whenever I would see Moishe he would ask me about my son and the rest of the family. Regardless of what was going on in his own life he always was worried about others and had a smile and warm word. Moishe was a true living example for so many of us.

Still miss his smile and positive attitude. The perfect example a Lubavitch Chossid. I lived the last 10 years on the same block. When we spoke it was always positive and when we spoke of his illness he kept it was always on a positive note. This is a lesson I will try to live with daily. His smile was an outward reflection of his neshama. May Hashem answer our request to finally bring the Hisgalus of the Rebbe and take us out of this dark golus.

Aside from going on Moshe’s bus for one year when I was a child, which I dont really remember,I didn’t have much to do with him until a few years ago. I was in charge of Chanukah Mivtzoyim for Oholei Torah zal and he would drive the bochurim some of the nights of chanukah to their locations. Since then, EVERY time I saw him he would say “hi” or “how are you” and we would chat for a few minutes. Such a warm and genuine person, always with a smile and a kind word.

Moshe was my son’s driver for 3 years, I would always watch my son’s expression on his face when moshe was pulling up to our home. He had a smile from ear to ear. Moshe was always into the childs safety, and made sure he was waiting on the sidewalk untill the door was open, and after once of being so excited to see Moshe my son went a little earlier in the street, and Moshe waited for him to go back on the sidewalk. The next day he complimented him and said EXCELLENT! with a big smile. Not only… Read more »
krias shema in the morning on time and krias shema at night from a siddur (from ribono shel olam..)
Years ago, when in middle of the year I moved apartments. The first day that my son came home from school after moving apartments, he came home full of excitement. Mommy! Mommy! he said. My new bus driver is Moshe. Do you know that he’s the best bus driver in the whole world. Even a child of three was able to feel his true love and kindness to every child. Riding on his bus was such an amazing experience for my son. He always played chassidishe niggunim for the children and the atmosphere was charged with such positive energy.
To be more happy even when it’s not going my way
Moshe and I discussed numerous times how he was like Yosef the holy Baal Agolah in the times of the Alter Rebbe..certain Shlichus he had to fulfill being a bus driver..he was a humble holy person always happy…
Moshe was not my son’s driver but whenever my son missed the bus in the morning i would bring him to the next block to wait for Moshe’s bus. Moshe would always stop to pick him up even though it wasnt a regular stop) and always with a smile and have a good day to me. When my grandchildren who were visiting from out to town went to Oholei Torah we were delighted that Moshe was their bus driver. One time I got on the bus to go to Oholei Torah with an especially shy grandson. In his kind and… Read more »

Hachloto: Do mivtzoyim with more chayus!
For those that didn’t know, R. Moshe was the only bus driver who would every Chanukah drive the Mivtzoim bus with excitement. He would wait for every bochur to be back on the bus and didn’t run off after 2 minutes. He was also the only driver who would give one night free.

What a special neshama . He would always greet the boys with a cheerful “Good Morning ” upon getting on his bus inn the moring and the friendliest “Good-Bye” when leaving his bus after school . If you weren’t out when he came by in the morning he would honk and wait for you . He made sure the boys knew all the safety rules and would not open the door of the bus in the morning until he saw the boy waiting safely on the sidewalk ( and not on the street ). Every morning when I would walk to school and it would be the same time as R’ Moshe’s with his bus passing He would wave and smile the way only He did best. Some neighbors I would sometimes debate in my head should i or should i not say hello. But with R’ Moshe Abelsky, that debate was never there. I would feel so good when He did, whether it was through a bus, across the street etc… He really taught me the power of a simple hello and smile. My hachlata is that every morning the first person I… Read more »

In his z’chus Crown Heights/Anash should FINALLY REALLY increase in Ahavas Yisrael. We should ALL realize that it doesn’t matter if you are a bus driver, the richest retired g’vir, or a ‘successful’ shliach. What really matters is that we all care about each other and have a smile and friendly word to greet each other with. Follow Moshe’s example in being a good friend – don’t smile and then stab – but be a truly happy individual and care about your friends and neighbors.
When I was studying in Oholi Torah Zal, The Hanhallah worked on getting a bus for the Yeshiva Bochrim who live at home. Moishe would wait for me at times a couple minutes morning/evening when he realized I was not on time and never complained about it! ON FRIDAY MORNINGS usually for weeks on my brother and I would be the only Bochurim on the bus and he would still come on that morning just for us. From that year on We would wave at each other every time I see the bus strolling around Crown Heights. put an extra… Read more »
