Rocking the Umhlanga Rocks

Last Motzei Shabbos, grade 11 boys of Torah Academy of Johannesburg boarded a bus with the yeshiva’s bochurim shluchim for an overnight journey to spend the rest of Sukkos and Simchas Torah at Chabad of Umhlanga Rocks.

The boys intended for a real laid back week to chill and relax, but as soon as they stepped into Kwazulu Nazal territory the entire trip was transformed completely.

The boys, coming from many various backgrounds, immediately dedicated their entire trip to encouraging all those they met – hundreds of locals, vacationers, tourists and backpackers – to shake the Lulav and Esrog.

Each day, bright and early the group split into two, half taking the beach front boardwalk and hotels, while the others went through the city with the Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Wainer, and his Sukkah Mobile.

The interest and excitement showed by the boys, many of whom experienced their first “Mivtzoim/Shlichus,” was really inspiring.

This enthusiasm was continued into Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, where the boys brought a completely new vitality to the community. Tremendous Hachlotos were taken over the yomim tovim, new bonds were made between the class and the shluchim, which all in all left everyone leaving Tishrei truly uplifted.
