Federal, State and City officials joined Crown Heights residents and Community leaders in the Sukkah of Chanina and Orly Sperlin in celebration of Sukkos.
Later, some of the guests joined the dancing at Simchas Beis Hashoeiva on Kingston Avenue and greeted residents from the stage.
The guest list of elected officials included US Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, NY State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Brooklyn Boro President Eric Adams, Brooklyn DA Kenneth Thompson, Public Advocate Letitia James, NY City Comptroller Scott Stringer, NY State Assembly members Karim Camara and Dov Hikind, City Council Members Laurie Cumbo and Mathew Eugene and District Leaders Geoffrey Davis and Shirley Patterson, as well as former District Leader and now Democratic Candidate for the State Senate Jesse Hamilton.
Representing the New York Police Department and Chief of Department Philip Banks was Chief Michael Harrington, who heads Chief Banks’ office.
Several officials who were unable to attend were represented by their staffers including David Lobl for Governor Cuomo, Pinny Ringel for Mayor deBlasio, Arna Lipkind for Council Member Darlene Mealy, and Reuven Lipkind for the office of the 20th State Senatorial District.
The Community representatives in attendance included the newly elected chairman of Community Board 9, Dwayne Nicholson, First Deputy Chair of Board 8, Shalawn Langhorne, and chairman of the 71 Precinct Community Council Carl Kohn.
Community activists of the Boro Park and Williamsburg communities were also present to join with their Crown Heights colleagues, as well liaisons for the various officials in attendance, including Eli Slavin, Yoel Eisdorfer, Simcha Eichenstein, Abe Friedman, and Yoel Lefkowitz.
In their comments, the elected officials spoke of the importance of Crown Heights as a community where many different ethnic groups live together in harmony and of the work of Crown Heights Jewish Community Council in bringing help to community members and in bringing people together.
Rabbi Eli Cohen, Executive Director of the Council was the MC of the event.
