This past Wednesday night, 170 girls gathered in Bais Rivkah to start off this year’s HOO program.
HOO, which was formed one year ago in Bais Rivkah High School, is an acronym for Helping Our Own – sending volunteers to help those families in Crown Heights who may be a bit overwhelmed, have many small children, or are going through a difficult time. This program partners with Yeled V’Yalda, Mother to Mother, Bais Rivkah Headstart, Shifra Puah, and Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights.
To launch this year’s project, volunteers were treated to an evening of fun and inspiration with a gala milchig buffet, professional photo booth as well as decorating hands for the walls of our very own HOO Hub.
The volunteers were then addressed by Mrs. Sara Blau explaining some important key points when visiting or supporting families who are challenged.They were very moved when Mrs. Blau read letters of appreciation from families who had benefited from last year’s initiative. Mrs Rochy Korlitzky of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim spoke to the girls on the impact they have on the lives of many families and motivated the girls with regard to how much helping others is actually helping oneself.
The Hoo Volunteers are now mobilized and ready, looking forward to a fulfilling and exciting year doing chesed, helping our own and making a difficult time just a bit easier to manage!
