A group of more than 30 young men gathered in the studio of Fitche Benshimon for a crash-course dedicated to ba’alei tefilla that will be Davening in Chabad houses across the states.
This event was arranged by Fitche Benshimon and coordinated by Avraham Green, director of operations in the Shluchim Office and coordinator of the Shluchim Office’s Chazan Placement service.
Benshimon spent the night sharing tips on preparing for the most effective and beautiful davening.
“The focus of this event wasn’t about discussing nusach or chazzonus,” he explained. “We discussed Davening in a Chabad House setting. What does the crowd want to hear? What do the shluchim expect of their ba’alei tefilla? How do we make Davening pleasant and relatable to the average American coming to Chabad? And of course, some vocal and breathing techniques.”
When asked to share what he gained most from the evening, one participant responded, “Learning about musical phrases was new to me. About when and how to pause for a breath, when music dictates so, and how this adds in the perush hamilos, makes it easier for the chazan on a technical level, and much easier and enjoyable for the crowd to follow.”
Benshimon speaks of experience of davening for many shluchim since the age of 14 in the USA, Canada and Brazil, and at his current position at Chabad of Midtown Manhattan.
