Newly elected District Attorney Kenneth Thompson paid a visit Thursday afternoon to the Shalom Senior Center located in the heart of Crown Heights.
He was warmly greeted by the center’s director – Rabbi Shimon Herz, community activist – Chanina Sperlin, liaison to Council member Darlene Mealy – Arna Lipkind, liaison to newly-elected State Senator Jesse Hamilton – Reuvain Lipkind and community activists and businessmen.
The DA was accompanied by his Jewish liaison Sender Wolf.
Rabbi Herz introduced the District Attorney, first by explaining that his visit is during a very auspicious time, just days prior to Rosh Hashanah. He thanked
the DA for his deep involvement in the Crown Heights community, noting that this is his second time in 3 days visiting the neighborhood.
The DA thanked the seniors for their trust and support by voting on election day. The DA promised his full support of the Jewish community and all communities and to ensure that justice is served.
The DA then greeted the seniors personally. Several seniors who survived the Concentration camps showed him their tattooed numbers on their forearm. The DA was visibly shocked and assured them that here in the USA they can live safely.
The DA also sent greetings to the entire community for the Jewish new year, stating that “The prayers for a New Year, recited in synagogues around our city, apply to all of us,” and that his work and the work of his staff, is “dedicated to achieving that fairness, peace and security through justice. I look forward to a New Year in which those goals will be reached, for all of us.”
just this week Jews driving cars were pelted with stones, which can be fatal, none of the knockout perps have been prosecuted, yet were all impressed with the DA coming to our community for a few smiles and a photo up?!
results should be the only indication of a DA that cares!!
It is assuring to know that the community has a solid voice in the DA’s office. I am sure Rabbi Herz will use his strong connections wisely
It’s so nice to see you are being publicly praised. Shimon, You do so much private Chesed to Crown Heights members who so desperately need your help, and does not get the recognition he truly deserves. kol Hakovod. Have a blessed New Year!
The DA is really keeping tabs on Crown Heights twice in 1 week.Chanina has real pull. Looks like the senior center was a great place for the DA to visit.
It was very inspiring meeting the District Attorney and seeing his commitment to our community
Its especially assuring to us Seniors Knowing Rabbi Herz and The District Attorney are such close friends, and has assured Rabbi Herz to call his office anytime for any situation
Again, Thank You Mr. DA, and Thank You Rabbi Shimon for running such a wonderful Senior Center, and being there always for us.
SHANA TOVA!
