An apparent knockout attack took place in Crown Heights on Tuesday morning and sent a Jewish father and son to the hospital.
At approximately 9:30 am the 46 year old Jewish male and his 6 year old son were attacked by a man who punched them as they were getting into a car on President Street near Albany Avenue.
“He came out of the blue and punched my son from behind,” the victim told COLlive.
An NYPD patrol car was immediately flagged down, and when the two officers exited their vehicle the perp fled with the officers in foot pursuit, police said.
The officers apprehended the perp at the next corner on Troy and President. The perp resisted arrest and was maced. Finally, he was arrested and brought to Kings County Hospital for treatment of his injuries and a psychological evaluation.
The attacker is a 40-year-old black male with a long psychological history and suffers from schizophrenia, a spokesperson for the NYPD 71st Precinct told COLlive.
The victims were both treated at the scene by Hatzolah, the father suffering from a cut lip and a lower knee injury and the son pain to the side of his face. Both were transported by Hatzalah Emergency Medical Service to Kings County Hospital.
The attack follows other incidents in the neighborhood in recent weeks. In one, a 24-year-old Jewish student was violently attacked on Albany Avenue. In another, three young men attacked a 9-year-old Jewish boy, hitting him in the head.
On Monday, August 18, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, NY State Assemblyman Dov Hikind and other elected officials and clergy held a news conference to decry recent violence against Jews in the neighborhood.

The psychiatrist who decided this attacker was sane enough to be freely roaming the streets should have this incident (and others the police seem to be well aware of) entered into his- the psychiatrist’s- professional record. If that were done I’d bet he’d think twice before releasing potentially dangerous patients to roam the streets. P. S. Regardless of his mental condition,there’s no doubt in my mind that the attacker chose these particular victims because they were visibly Jewish.

Yes, he is a schizophrenic, that’s horrible and sad. But do you really think he would have done the same to a black guy and his son walking down the street? I don’t think so, he had enough sense in him to pick the “right” target. And unfortunately this is not the only incident. It’ s happening very often and not all the perpetrators have schizophrenia. You are missing something here, it’s exactly the attitude of blatant anti semitism around us that allows any crazy person to believe that the Jew is the easy victim. Ten to one he was not focusing on black 6 year olds. Crazy people look for easy victims too.
Someone who might cause harm to others should not be allowed on the street! Jail or hospital, but no on the streets.

It’s possibly not the local pct’s fault, it’s either our so-called criminal justice system or the psychiatrists. I am NOT anti-psychiatrist, but am pro-honesty and sanity. I’ve got stories to tell about them. Here, in America, they tend to show kindness to the cruel, therefore bestowing cruelty on the kind. How many times was he arrested…10? Makes good business. Park all our cars on Eastern Pkwy (not orderly) and demand a better response.

Fact is even small protests DO work both by getting rid of Commander Vega and by the Ehud Halavy incident. Imagine what a large taking to the streets (yes blocking traffic if needed) would do. Crown Heights used to be respected but even though our voting and business power has grown our political and by extension personal safety has decreased.
Our standing up and protesting won’t do much. We’ve tried it before, they laugh. We need to have a powerful community defense system in place without being so frightened of backlash from police or the criminals. We need to put the fear in the criminals to make them think twice about attacking anyone.
No other community would up with this garbage!

In NYC it is perfectly legal to carry a folding knife concealed, so long as the blade is not longer than 4″. Look it up.
What community leaders? They exist in theory but reality teaches us otherwise.
the next time it happens , if we were to catch the attacker and hang in on kingston, i bet they will be afraid to come to crown heights and do it again

First look in the picture the cop didn’t even cuff the thug.The man was full aware of what he was doing . Punching a 6 year old boy in the face for no reason only because he is white is a hate crime . Its time to get rid of the inspector ,and the lousy good for nothing detectives who do nothing. Please call it what it is: the same hate crime against Jews in Crown Heights by blacks that has been going on since the beginning of Jewish life here. When a grown man (if he can be so called) perpetrates a targeted attack against Jews it is counter productive and dangerous to write it off as the popular game of the moment.
Just love how the “NYPD” is already making excuses for the attack??!! They will release him in few hours ( if they haven’t already) the 71st precinct is a joke!!!
A part of the problem is we have a bunch of So called ” leaders” who are more interested in photo-ops than actually taking people responsible up to task, for fear putting their personal connections in jeproady.
This problem has plagued the Jewish people for many years and unfuranately for us regular crown heighters there ain’t much we could do.
