Mendy (Menachem) Raitport, born and raised in Brooklyn and a Lubavitch resident of Crown Heights, has announced that he is running for election as State Senator in New York’s 20th District.
Owner of a butcher shop on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, Raitport is running under the Conservative banner, and says he has the qualifications necessary to be an effective voice of the people whom he hopes to represent: He is a Brooklyn resident.
Listing on his campaign website public education improvements, housing and job opportunities, health care, welfare and public programs and women’s rights and equal opportunities as his key issues, Raitport says he is willing to cross party lines to make a difference. “It’s about service to the community, not a pay check in my pocket,” he says.
Born, raised and educated in Brooklyn, this 47 year-old married father of 8 grew up in a family whose name is synonymous with community service. His parents, Rabbi and Mrs. Y. Raitport, have long been active in a number of local and global charitable organizations, which at an early age instilled in Mendy that giving back comes before taking. His active volunteering includes working as an (EMT) Emergency Medical Technician, a member of (CERTS) Community Emergency Response Training and Service, as well as leading numerous charitable ventures that include mentoring young people.
In addition to being a father and community volunteer, Raitport is also a Crown Heights-based butcher shop owner. He understands the demands small businesses face to meet payroll, pay suppliers, and provide for their families while taxes soar. Like the rest of the community, Mendy worries about a further reduction in the standards of living and seeing essential services erode on a daily basis.
“As a 20th District Resident, I have watched our local schools, small businesses and social and public services crumble while corruption flourishes,” says Raitport. “The lack of concern for our community’s wellbeing and unemployment compelled me to run for the 20th District Senatorial seat. Our children, our businesses and aspiring adults have been cheated and ignored long enough.”
Raiport is determined to meet the needs of New York’s 20th District. “I am not here running as a Republican v. Democrat,” Raitport emphasizes. “I want to do what’s right for every single resident in the district. From clean streets to safe streets,” he says.
“Things need to get better. We live here, and we deserve better. I have my sleeves rolled up, ready to work.”

Tracht gut, vet zain gut! And with g-ds help he will iy”h win!
GO MENDY!
Great news!, there r very few people with such integrity ,excellent character, and socially able to be able to maneuver the political scene. He fits the bill! Hatzlacha rabba.
If I though as pessimistic as some of you I’d want to shoot myself some of you need deep therapy. But that is off topic I am happy a from Jew like Mendy is running it makes me optimistic and proud to be a jew.
The problem voting for a Jewish candidate, unless he miraculously wins, is that we lose our leverage as a swing voter block. This makes us more irrelevant to whoever actually has a chance for winning to office.
Yes he is jewish . It doesn’t mean we need to vote for him because he is Jewish. hamasei hu iker . we need to see tachlis what he plans to do for our community
Vote for Mendy and get all your friends and relatives to do the same. I sure will. It does not matter if he will not win this time. If we can muster a nice vote count you can bet the other politicians will notice. #10 and #19 are just plain losers who have no foresight of what this can mean to us.
Good Luck Mendy.
to some of you, my response
#10, you are a sadly negative person. This man is a kind, bright, on the mark guy, and we need whats called an oxymoron…..an HONEST politician.
#11: its not about one of our own, as much as it is to have SOMEONE HONEST AND DECENT. I give him alot of credit for the effort, and who knows, he might just get in. May he bring clarity to us all. and #30, I agree.
I don’t know what chance he has of winning (as neither do you), but I can guarantee that if Mendy, or any other Lubavitcher, followed your advice we would have a zero percent chance of winning. Perhaps he could win, perhaps he can’t. At the very least it begins the process to show the local elected officials not to ignore the Jewish community…
Your defeatist attitude certainly won’t get us anywhere…
Voting day is November 4th 2014.
Guys, please come out and vote; and don’t forget to contribute!!!
Sounds great! When is the voting day?
Wow. Sooooo happy to finally have a voice. Thank u for representing us. You are the right guy for the job.
The tsinat chinam you have is atrocious. If you have nothing positive to say about a fellow jew take a muzzle and put it on your mouth. You are so uneducated and your ignorance blossoms. Please go get some education and come back and write an intellectual answer with proper grammar thank you.
BS”D # 10, you label him a phony but fail to mention even one reason why. Let us hear (if you can) As the Mishnah says- one who accuses another is merely putting their own pusellness on the one they accuse
Finally, someone who is trying to do something.
Thanks for all u do for the entire Kolel of the Rebbe and the yugerleit!! Your caring and dedication is amazing
Hatzlocha rabah

If you’re serious about getting him elected start an absentee ballot drive, no one is going to the polls in an off election year with no serious contendor for gov. If you get everyone in ch to vote by absentee ballot perhaps the margin will be smaller
Dear everyone, please encourage your own family to go vote for this gentleman. We need to improve our lifestyle starting from our own safety and security.
EVERYONE VOTE FOR HIM!
IT’S YOUR DUTY AND OBLIGATION IF YOU CARE ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY!
Just because he is from our community it doesn’t means we need to vow for him.
The bottom line what is he going to do for the community?
Is he going to be bringing in more funding ,and programs?
Is he going to take over 100k for his salary and do nothing ?
Important to know and understand what he is going to do .
We need action not people sitting doing nothing
and is he gets 40% we as a community send a message to the winner we should not be ignored.
Please help Mendy win! Vote and DONATE to his campaign! He needs our support!
Its about time to have an eigener in the show.
His son some told me way back that he is thinking about this.it’s good to see that he actually implemented it,I wish him much success

Mendy Raitport, is a passionate bright individual with a lot of love and compassion for people. He would make an excellent candidate. His warmth sensitivity towards all those that know him will drive him to have a successful campaign full of high moral fiber. I fully support Mendy Raitport and I truly believe everyone if they were smart would do the same.
Another side is those who do vote are responsible for the ones they put in office.
An example is the current president. Those voters who voted for him are responsible.
Everyone should donate to his campaign so he can get the word out and get enough votes to win
EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS
Goto http://www.raitportdistrict20.com to donate
it’s about time we get one of ours in office. vote for mendy
we don’t need the phony likes of those like him I for one won’t vote for him & neither will most of the blacks & non jews in the district it’s a waste of time & money! money that could be much better spent elsewhere! every dollar that he gets from you is money thrown away! wasted!
Even if he does lose, it still makes a difference how much the MARGIN was.
If he gets 3% no Lubavitcher will run again for the next 20 years!!
If he gets 40%, someone will run again next time.
Everyone please vote for a Lubavitcher to be the State Senator.
Hopefully all the lazy Crown Heights-ers who don’t usually vote will go vote this time so we have a chance of a Lubavitcher representing us for a change.
Whoever doesn’t vote on election day, has no right to complain later about anything to do with politics or about our elected officials.
He’s a nice kind friendly person a charitable person and I wish him best of luck
Wishing you lots of Hatzlocha. You have my vote.
We are all standing with you
Good luck! I hope you win.
It takes a few rounds to get in but if every Jew came out to vote he might have a chance
…if you can’t think of any other reason – at least you know HE CARES about OUR/HIS community.
