For the very first time, the Crown Heights community will host a public townhall debate between two candidates running to succeed Eric Adams as the New York State Senator representing the 20th District.
This debate is being organized by members of the Jewish community, African American community as well as residents from Lefferts Garden, the Crown Heights Political Club and the Fredric Douglas Democratic Club.
The debate will take place at on Thursday, August 28, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva hall on Crown and Montgomery Street (use the Albany Avenue entrance).
The candidates to become the Democratic nominee are local activist Rubain Dorancy and Jesse Hamilton, a former aid of Adams.
Moderated by Tim Thomas and Milford Prewitt, it will be an opportunity for residents and voters to hear directly from the Democratic candidates as to their position are, and what are their plans should they be elected.
The event is sponsored by COLlive.com, the Crown Heights PAC, Cong. Chevra Ahavas Yisroel, The Shul of Crown Heights and Cong. Shule.
“The point of the debate is for the residents to hear directly from the candidates their positions and vision for the community should they be elected,” says one community leader.
Another activist urgent members of the local Jewish community to attend the debate. “It is important that the Jewish community make an effort to attend Thursday’s event,” he said.
He added, “There has been a lot of outreach and promotion of this debate within the African American and the Lefferts Garden community, so it is important that we make our presence heard, for if we don’t then we can’t complain when politicians and elected officials do not provide funding or services to our community.
“As we all know Brooklyn as whole and Crown Heights in particular is rapidly changing, and unless we unify and make sure are voices are heard through our votes, then we will be pushed aside by other communities and groups who now call Crown Heights home.”
Admission is free.
To number 1.
There is a member of the community running. Menachem Raitport for Senate! He is on the republican and conservative party ticket.
We are (still) a minority of a minority it this district. However its clear that Jesse Hamilton is hands down the better candidate. He understands and actually lives within the frum area of this district and he has a track record of caring.the other candidate might be a nice guy but doesn’t know us or feel a need to be follow or lead on any important issues.
Are they both pro ‘Same gender Marriage?’ Perhaps I won’t vote in the next election. This marriage initiative is anti-American. ‘One Nation, Under G-d, With Liberty and Justice for All.’ G-d is against sodomy. ‘The 7 Noahide Laws’ N O W .
Why can’t we get anyone from our community who cares aboutour values to run
