Reb Nussen Vogel, formerly of London, England and more recently of Israel passed away Monday, Av 30, 5774.
He was 82.
Reb Nussen was known as a G-d fearing Jew who was introduced to Chabad by his brother Rabbi Feivish Vogel, who helped build Lubavitch in London together with Rabbi Nachman Sudak obm.
The owner of a stationery store in London, he was known for his love for learning, and he finished the entire Shas several times.
He had many correspondences with the Rebbe and had several Yechidus meetings with the Rebbe from the middle 60’s and on.
All his children learned in Lubavitch and are now heads of Lubavitch families all over the world.
He was a big Baal Tzedakah in his little own way, he never turned down a request for Tzedaka even though he was never a wealthy man himself. His house in London was known to be an open house where his wife Mrs. Ita Vogel A”H fed the hungry and housed the lonely for many years.
After his wife passed away in 1986 he remarried and moved to Israel where he lived in Har Nof for more than twenty years, learning in various Kollels and translating many of the Rebbe’s works into English as well as many other Chasidic works.
He was very Makpid to daven with a Minyan and was a tremendous Yirei Shamayim in every way.
He is survived by his children Aharon Yosef Vogel (Crown Heights, NY); Noach Vogel (San Jose, California); Dobra Baila Greenberg (Crown Heights, NY); Tamara Katzman (Crown Heights, NY); Soroh Simon (Crown Heights, NY); Shmuel Dovid Vogel (Beitar, E”Y); Moishe Vogel (Crown Heights, NY); Chaim Yitzchok Vogel (Beitar, E”Y); Shneur Zalman Vogel (Ashkelon, E”Y); and Chaya Raizel Sonenschien (Montreal, Canada).
He is also survived by his brothers Faivish Vogel (London, England) and Eliyohu Vogel (Israel).
