What do you get when you put 30 Jewish women in a resort hotel with delicious food and deep Torah learning? A Shabbos to remember.
For many of the participates of a getaway Shabbaton at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Weston, Florida, it was an opportunity to keep Shabbos for the first time.
It was organized by Shlucha Rochel Holzkenner, co-director of Chabad of Las Olas. The guest speaker was Mrs. Shimona Tzukernik, creator of “The Method,” a therapeutic application of Kabbalah for individuals and corporations seeking a spiritually based transformation.
“It was easier in a beautiful venue and with the support of friends,” said Linda, a yoga instructor who taught classes on Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
“The classes held me spellbound,” said Jericah Zabielinsky of Miami. “Shimona’s insight into the struggles that the modern woman faces were right on. I can’t believe that the Torah has something to say about my relationships.”
The fifth annual Shabbaton, the schedule included yoga, meals, lectures and interactive workshops with Shimona Tzukernik. Participants had a chance to hear her story of growth and her journey to Chabad.
“Shimona’s talks appeals to all ‘types’ of women – there was no one who walked away disappointed,” said Mrs. Holzkenner. “She wasn’t afraid to be our friend, to share with us in an intimate way. She spent a lot of time talking to people one on one in between the lectures.”
“This weekend brought me back to a commitment to keep Shabbat,” shared Samantha, a frequent attendee at Chabad of Las Olas. “I used to do it but moved away. I’m going to do it again.”
Mrs. Holzkenner and Mrs. Tzukernik, what a great team!
One of my only teachers in highschool who was not judgmental. She is so inspiring
