More than 1,000 people filled the Werdiger Hall in Caulfield this week to join in prayer for the soldiers in the IDF currently engaged in Operation Protective Edge.
The event organised by the RCV in conjunction with the COSV attracted members from the entire spectrum of the Victorian Jewish Community.
The event was chaired by Rabbi Ralph Genende VP RCV who invited rabbis to lead prayers with the community.
Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant, President of RCV and ORA delivered the key note address. Photos accompanied with the names of soldiers who perished in recent weeks were displayed as Rabbi Heilbrunn OAM led the mourner’s prayer in their honour and memory.
At the conclusion of the gathering, participants made donations for the provision of essential items such as soap, underwear and ice drinks to soldiers on the front line. More than $11,500 was raised.
Also in attendance was Mr Chin Tan, the Multicultural commissioner.
Rabbi Kluwgant said that he was deeply moved and inspired by the community’s solidarity and deep and unwavering attachment and support for Israel and the IDF. “It was an amazing night, deeply inspiring and very moving” said Rabbi Kluwgant.
Isaac Teller, President of the COSV said that “we are fortunate to have such an engaged community, who support each other and feel so connected to Israel and what is going on there”.
GOD BLESS HIS MIGHTY ARMY.
