Israel – A 75 year old Brooklyn woman died tonight in Israel after suffering a fatal heart attack while running to a shelter after air raid sirens went off.
Mrs. Esther Finkel was the wife of Rabbi Yitzchak Finkel, a sofer who has been a rebbi in Yeshiva Torah Temimah for over 20 years and the sister of Rabbi Chaim Epstein of Yeshiva Zichron Elimelech.
The Finkels, who were vacationing in Jerusalem, were spending Shabbos with family members in the city’s center when the a red alert went out at approximately 7 PM this evening, according to reports on Israeli news site Nana 10.
While the missiles landed in Palestinian territory south of Jerusalem, Mrs. Finkel told family members that she was not feeling well and collapsed several minutes later. She was pronounced dead at the scene by responders from Magen David Adom.
“She suffered a fatal heart attack brought on by fear,” Yanky Meyer, of Misaskim told VIN News. “She was known to be a person who was always fearful.”
Mrs. Finkel, a mother of four and a grandmother who lived on 58th Street between 15th and 16th Avenues, was known for her work collecting clothing for people in Israel, assembling twice yearly shipments of clothing in her garage.
Kevura will be taking place in Israel with further shiva details to be announced for family members who will be returning from Israel. Rabbi Epstein will be sitting shiva at Camp Toras Chesed on Route 55 in Swan Lake.
On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and a 50-year-old man was lightly injured by a rocket blast in Ashkelon.
Code Red sirens wailed across southern Israel, as residents in Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Be’er Sheva rushed to shelters Sunday morning. Two rockets exploded in open areas near Be’er Sheva. The Iron Dome missile battery intercepted one rocket over Ashkelon.
Some one million Israelis woke up to the sound of alarms after 6 am, as Code Red sirens blared in cities across central and southern Israel: Rehovot, Rishon LeZion, Modi’in, Ashdod, Lod, Ashkelon, Ramle, Ben Gurion Airport, and other smaller communities.
The shockwaves from the explosions were heard as far as the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. Four rockets were intercepted during the salvo – three over Lod and one in the skies of Ashdod. The IDF reported that the Israeli Air Force attacked the launchers used for the early morning rocket fire.
The air raid sirens wailed overnight Saturday in the Eshkol, Sha’ar HaNegev, and Sdot HaNegev Regional Councils from midnight until 5 am – a total of 10 rockets landed in open spaces in the Gaza border region. Two of the rockets exploded inside Eshkol, causing light damage to a house and a public structure. No one was injured in the rocket salvo.
According to figures released Saturday night, since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, 605 rockets fell inside Israel (84 on Saturday) and 143 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system (at least 6 on Saturday).

More mitzvos, more davening , more tehilim that is the least we can do for them , they are fighting for all of us . every summer camp should say tehilim and give tzedaka for the welfare of all Jews in Eretz Israel and for all the soldiers in Tzahal .May Hashem protect them all .

Israel is the safest place on earth. We need to do more mitzvos, learn more Torah, Improve all aspects of tznius in speach though action as well as clothing. Do TESHUVAH. The lives of Yidden in Israel can be saved by our positive actions, and we don’t need or want anymore wake up calls! Let’s end this galus now!
