Over 100 members of Vancouver’s Jewish community gathered on Wednesday evening, July 9th, to commemorate the 20th yartzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe obm.
The event titled “Timeless Leadership” took place at the Lubavitch Centre and was a joint program of the eight Chabad Lubavitch centers in British Columbia.
The evening began with simultaneous workshops which were taught by local Chabad rabbis and covered topics such as the Rebbe’s outreach campaign, the Rebbe’s scholarly works and the Rebbe’s chassidic melodies.
After two sets of workshops, the guests gathered in the social hall for a buffet dinner and to listen via live webcast to guest speaker, Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, internationally acclaimed educator and lecturer and chief rabbi of Efrat.
Rabbi Riskin spoke of his encounters with the Lubavitcher Rebbe and how he gained much from the Rebbe’s wise advice.
His talk was followed by a short film about carrying on the Rebbe’s legacy called “Marching Orders” which was recently produced by Jewish Educational Media.
