For parents raising children with special needs, many times the most important resource available to them is information.
Whether they are established Shluchlim living in a large city or first time parents from a small college town, the need for information is equally as urgent and crucial.
When dealing with new diagnosis or ongoing issues parents are constantly searching for ways to educate and inform themselves.
Recognizing the need for parent education on a range of crucial topics, Yaldei Shluchei HaRebbe we will be producing a bi monthly podcast that will cover a range of topics in the areas of education, family dynamics and shalom bayis.
The podcast, donated by Rabbi Avrohom Meir and Chaya Shuman of Buffalo, NY, will feature Rabbanim, educators, parents and mental health professionals.
Podcast #1:
What does it mean to “parent on the same page?” We are often advised and encouraged to be on the same page when it comes to parenting our children. Is this really possible to achieve? What about parents who have opposite views on parenting, and what about parents who have very different parenting styles?
It is presented by Rabbi Dr. Yosef Shagalow, a Chabad Shliach and a psychologist in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a father of a young adult with special needs.
He is the owner and director of clinics in the Twin Cities specializing in DBT therapy for the past 15 years and maintains a private practice working with individual clients.
Rabbi Dr. Shagalow studied in Morristown, New Jersey, and was sent with a group on Shlichus to Miami, Florida. He completed his smicha ordination at the Central Chabad Yeshiva – 770.
In 1986 Rabbi Shagalow, along with his family, moved to Minnesota on Shlichus under Rabbi Moshe Feller of Upper Midwest Merkos Lubavitch.
In 1991, with a brocho from the Rebbe, he went to graduate school in counseling psychology and in 1996 entered a doctorate program in clinical psychology. Along with his work as a psychologist, Rabbi Dr. Shagalow runs the Chabad Minyan of S. Louis Park, MN.
Using his experience, Rabbi Dr. Shagalow touches upon this topic in a short and concise way helping to bring some general application to this topic.
