The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for New York City from noon today until 5:00 PM tonight.
Forecasters say temperatures in the 90s will combine with humidity to make it feel like it’s around 100 degrees.
The New York City Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Health are asking people to avoid strenuous activity and to check on any vulnerable family, friends and neighbors.
The high heat can be particularly dangerous to the elderly, the very young and anyone with pre-existing medical conditions. It can also be dangerous for pets.
Today’s heat advisory comes a day after severe thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain ravaged the Tristate New York area Wednesday night.
The National Weather Service issued a several weather alerts for the area, including Flash Flood Warnings and Watches because of the heavy rain from powerful thunderstorms. The Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for certain counties until Friday, July 4, at noon.
The storms knocked down trees and electrical lines, causing thousands to lose power.
If we had heat advisories here in vegas, there’d be no going outside for 4 months!
Camps that have trips planned for today! PLEASE RESCHEDULE!!!!
THANK YOU!
