The third year of Tzohar Seminary for Chassidus and the Arts ended with a beautiful performance for women and girls at the Katz Theatre of the JCC of Pittsburgh.
The Tzohar Class of 2014 performed and presented music, vocal ensembles, dance, poetry, artwork, theatre, animation and film work that they created collaboratively in a presentation entitled ” Creating the Vision”.
Highlights included an original song called “Redemption” co- written by students Rosie Krinsky, Ester Eckhaus and Basya Feldman and a film of the students showing and explaining their visual artwork, created by Rochel Duato.
An original play was written collaboratively by many of the Tzohar students and performed by them under the direction of Mrs. Amy Guterson, their theatre teacher and founder/ director of the program.
The students also worked together (writing, acting and directing) to create a short film with animation on the Sefiros, conceived and overseen by Chana Corna, a student from Sydney, Australia. The film was based on Chassidus they studied throughout the year with Rabbi Aaron Herman, also the Seminary’s principal.
In this third year the work that the students produced showed a synthesis of Chassidus with the artwork. The ability of the girls to express deep Chassidic concepts through different art forms is a testament to their depth and understanding of the material as well as their G-d given talents, which they have developed and utilized for this purpose. The rabbis, limudei Kodesh and arts teachers have given the Tzohar students these skills and knowledge, and they have gone and made it their own. They not only assimilate the information into their lives but are then able to communicate it in an artistic and universal way.
Tzohar Seminary students have attended from Israel, England, Australia, Canada and across the USA.
There are a few available spots for the coming year.
