We’ve all had that experience. You’re sitting on the airplane next to someone whom you suspect is Jewish. You talk for a few minutes and lo-and-behold, he is. The flight lands and before you both disembark, you suggest he go to the Seder in his hometown . . . but then what?
Enter Chabad Link, a powerful new web app that connects people with the shliach they need to meet. Be it a businessman away from his shliach for Pesach or a young girl away on campus, a ChabadLink allows empowers people to connect the Jews they meet with the shliach near them.
Rabbi Levi Stein, of Chabad of Puerto Rico, has found great success with ChabadLink.
“Spending my day in Old San Juan gives me the opportunity to meet thousands of people from all over the world,” says Stein.
“Short encounters with tourists visiting Stein’s Chabad House, under the auspices of Rabbi Mendel Zarchi, founder of Chabad of the Caribbean Islands, means that following up with continued engagement is often difficult.”
“When people see Chabad in Puerto Rico they stop in for a minute or two and then continue on to their cruise ship,” Stein continues. “In that short amount of time Chabad Link gives me the opportunity to introduce them to their local Chabad house so they can be in touch when they get back home.”
The web app, developed by Merkos Suite 302 and Chabad.org, is part of a number of Jewish communal leadership initiatives launched at the Kinus in honor of the twentieth year since Gimmel Tammuz.
“The Rebbe viewed a world of Jews of all backgrounds taking a stand for Jewish identity and encouraging those they encountered to grow as Jews,” says Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky of Suite 302. “Chabadlink empowers everyone to take an active role in shlichus and connect those they meet with shluchim around the world.”
Chabad link works in three easy steps:
1. Enter the info of the student or community member.
2. Find the local shliach in the app’s comprehensive database.
3. Click send
That’s it! All three parties will receive the referral notification with needed information.
With Pesach just around the corner, now is an oppurtune time to connect the Jews you meet to a Seder or Chabad experience near them!
