A Shliach and father of 7 from Israel, who collapsed while in New York 2 and a half months ago, has flown home to his family in time for the Pesach holiday.
The flight home, which required him to be accompanied by 2 airline medics, was extremely costly, and came about due to the generosity of COLlive readers.
Two weeks ago, we reported that emergency funds were needed, and within 24 hours entire amount of $16,000 was raised.
“I want to thank each and every one of the people who donated to help this man get back home to his children, and to receive the medical care he needs in a proper facility in Israel,” said Rabbi Avraham Lieder of Ahavas Chesed, who coordinated the patient’s care while in New York and his transport home.
“We also want to thank all those who volunteered to visit him while he was here in a Brooklyn hospital,” he said.
The man had been in the hospital for 2 and a half months, and since he had no American insurance, the hospital discharged him to a rehab facility.
His wife, who flew in to be at his side, had been in New York for over 2 months as well.
Lieder also thanked Yingy Bistritzky of Crown Heights Hatzalah, and Mr. Winner who assisted with the patient’s care, and the Atrium Rehab Center in Canarsie who cared for him while he awaited transport.
There are still other urgent medical cases which Rabbi Lieder is attending to, and donations are needed to fund Ahavas Chesed’s vital work.

Bh. After all the recent tragedies it is heartwarming to have a “good news” story. May he have a complete Refuah Sheleima Bekorov Mamash.
Mr. Winner is actually Mr. Yitzchok Wiener, a resident now of Cedarhurst who was brought up in Crown Heights. He is a paramedic in Hatzoloh, and is a nursing home administrator. He acted as one of the main coordinators of this shliach’s care while in New York, and placed him and cared for him in his nursing home gratis after he was discharged from the hospital due to his lack of American insurance. A big yaasher koach to all involved. In the merit of the selflessness exhibited by those who helped physically and those who helped monetarily, may everyone who… Read more »
