Women Get ‘Taste’ of Yeshiva

Recently, Chabad on Campus International held their first Taste of Yeshiva Shabbaton for women at the Vallevue Estate in Morristown, New Jersey. The weekend was created with the goal of giving students a glimpse into the Yeshiva world and the many wonderful experiences that come along with that.

The Shabbaton was an incredible success, with 18 students from around the US joining together for a weekend packed with inspiration, Yeshiva-style lectures led by Rabbi Meir Levinger of Mayanot in Jerusalem and Mrs. Rivky Kaplan from Machon Alte in Tzfat, and fantastic entertainment.

The students were excited to meet new friends and happy to find, “so many great people who were going through similar experiences.” They were joined by campus Shlucha Mrs. Shifra Sharfstein from Chabad of Downtown Universities in Atlanta, Student Advisor Mrs. Chaya Schurder from Chabad on Campus International and seven exceptional madrichot.

The Taste of Yeshiva Shabbaton was five star on every level. According to Rivky Kaplan, “the weekend provided a true hands-on Yeshiva experience for those attending in a very safe environment, leaving many of the attendees empowered to make the leap and consider spending time delving into their heritage.”

In addition to the fascinating lectures, some highlights included: Erev Shabbos manicures and makeup artist, a all-Friday-night farbrengen, a Motzei Shabbos concert and kumzitz, a Sunday morning graphology session and $500 vouchers raffled off for learning programs.

“There was an incredible energy throughout the weekend as students formed new lasting friendships, in an environment filled with warmth and love,” recalled Mrs. Chaya Schurder, Student Advisor.

A unique and special connection developed between all those who attended, an effect largely helped by a complete weekend immersion in an inspirational environment. “The women had a first hand experience of the life and teachings behind the passion and devotion they see in their Chabad Houses,” said Rabbi Meir Levinger.

The Shabbaton left students invigorated, filled with Jewish pride, and inspired to further their Jewish learning in the near future. As one student put it, “this Shabbaton gave me the push, motivation, and strength to continue on this path while in college. It also solidified my decision to go back to Yeshiva for an extended period of time.”
