In the spirit of The Megillah, the Jews of the valley experienced “Light, Joy, Gladness and Splendor.” At Chabad of the Valley headquarters, Chabad of Tarzana hosted an amazing Saturday night Purim concert with Pini Cohen electrifying an audience of close to 1000 men, women and children.
This was a most emotional evening for Pini as he stated emphatically that he could think of no better gift than to celebrate his birthday with the Chabad community and his dear friend of over 30 years, Rabbi Mordy Einbinder.
Participants noted that the spirit in the room this year was unprecedented and unparalleled. The glow of attachment uniting many various sectors of the greater community was infectious and contagious. The large synagogue and social hall of Chabad of Tarzana was set up like an amphitheater accommodating the masses. Refreshments, graggers, raffle, music and dancing, an amazing juggler and the reading of the Megillah throughout the night created a wondrous atmosphere and an unforgettable experience.
At the same time in Culver City, the Megillah was read at a party for an organization Larger than Life.
Larger than Life – LA has the primary goal of improving the lives of children with life-threatening illness. Its focus is to support recovery and healthy development. Larger than Life — L.A. Family makes it possible for sickly children to enjoy happy, normal childhood experiences that other children their age often take for granted. There were over 700 people attending the party. This was the first time Chabad had arranged for the Megillah to be read at their Purim party. The festivities continued the next day. There were over 20 different Megillah reading locations. More than ten volunteers were set out in force to read at hospitals, board and care centers, house visits and even a hard working accountant who was open on Sunday!
Sunday morning at the Shachris and Megillah reading, Councilman Bob Blumenfeld joined Chabad of Tarzana and the Ryzman Family Hebrew School together with hundreds from the larger community. The festivities then continued throughout the day. There were over 20 different Megillah reading locations.
More than ten volunteers were set out in force to read at hospitals, board and care centers, house visits and even a hard working accountant who was open on Sunday!
According to Rabbi Yanky Kahn, “Chabad ofTarzana’s goal was to reach every Jewish person in the community.”
Special thanks go to the Shluchim Rabbi Mordy Einbinder, Rabbi Mayer Greene, Rabbi Yanky Kahn and Yochanon Gordon who, together with family, staff and volunteers truly propagated the pride of Purim.
Purim culminated with a major Purim Seudah featuring a six-course catered meal and included many varieties of fine wine and spirits. The highlight of the Seudah was the side-splitting humor of comedian Marvin Silbermintz, who, for many years, was the featured writer for Jay Leno’s Tonight Show.
This is but a brief glimpse of Purim in the Tarzana community. These programs and activities were duplicated throughout the twenty-six centers of Chabad of the Valley.
May we merit to continue to give The Rebbe, Nassi Doraynu much nachas and proceed to the ultimate joy and redemption of Moshiach Now, Amen!
Yasher Koach to the Shluchim for the beautiful evening and for everything else they do for the community!
