Does this sound familiar: “Why can’t I get an iPhone? All the kids in my class have one!”
Most parents have probably had some experience with giving their children access to technology. As children are getting smarter, attention spans are lowering, and technology is becoming more prevalent, what should be a frum parent’s response to questions like these? Is there a “kosher” way to provide your children with technology? What steps can be taken to ensure your child acts responsibly and earns your trust when you do give them what they’re asking for?
Rabbi Yakov Horowitz, long-time educator and director of Project YES, provides us with the theory and practice behind helping our children use the technology available today in the best possible way. He speaks about logical parenting and how we can prepare our children for the future by building up a strong relationship based on explanation and trust.
everybody is obligated to their own opinions and IPHONES ROCK!!!!

thank you! i enjoyed listening, great advice.
Most anash these days have Internet in there home, yet when our kids grow up, we send our kids to yeshivos where Internet is forbidden. %80 of the bochurim yeshiva get access to the Internet either way. The message is unclear. Rosh yeshivos need to learn about technology, yeshivos should embrace computers and technology and should teach there students how to use it in a kosher way. – But rosh yeshivos and mashpim these days are living in a different world so this will never happen.
My parents got me a regular phone – only text and call. This way I can’t play games but still call them if they’re away, and text them in emergencys.
every parent does what they can thats best for their child. if they feel their child is ready for an iphone, let them get one. it is not up to you to tell parents when/how they can get their child a phone.
Thank you Rabbi Horowitz for saying the truth!
