From Kingston Avenue to Boca Raton.
The Chassidic Art Institute (Chai) and Gallery, located in the center of the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights, is taking its portrayals of dancing chassidim and the old shtetl life to South Florida.
For the first time in many years, the Institute’s Director, Zev Markowitz, is embarking on a traveling exhibit tour with original paintings that provide an enduring link to the history and experience of the Jewish people.
Among the artists featured will be works by Chanoch Lieberman, Zalman Kleiman, Samuel Rothbort, Michael Gleizer, Lloyd Bloom, Meer Akselrod and other renowned Jewish artists.
The tour is being underwritten by Paul Miller, former Executive Vice President of the pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer, who is the chairman of the Chai institute and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Boca Museum of Art.
The first show will be at Miller’s synagogue, Anshei Emuna Congregation in Delray Beach on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, where Markowitz will be joined by Joy Schonberg, an appraiser and auctioneer who is the former head of Christie’s Judaica Department.
On Wednesday, February 5, the exhibit will be showing at Chabad of Palm Beach Gardens, directed by Rabbi Dovid and Chana Vigler. Along with wine and cheese, artwork will be presented and available for purchase benefiting Chabad’s new building.
There will also be the exquisite Judith Neugebauer Jewelry Collection for sale presented by Judith Wolov. The event is promising to “Celebrate the Beauty of Judaism.”
And on Thursday, February 6, the chassidic paintings will be on display at Chabad of Kendall & Pinecrest in Miami.
Markowitz and the tour will be back in Florida in November 2014 for a prestigious art show spanning three months at the Boca Museum of Art, one of South Florida’s premier cultural institutions located in Mizner Park in Boca Raton.
