The vibrant community Mayan Yisroel of Flatbush, which caters to a wide variety of Jews of Marine Park, Madison, and Midwood, added another niche group to its many members: Single mothers.
A new division at the center is called “My Extended Family” and was created to be a support group for frum single mothers and their children. And its not limited to families from Flatbush.
Mayan Yisroel’s leader Rabbi Yoseph Vigler, saw the need, and this past Sunday, January 19, the division held its second event – a “Family Fun Evening” held at Aguda of Avenue L.
Participating children had the opportunity to design their own yarmulkas with Golda Orenstein and create their own jewelry with Ruti Horn. They were also entertained by a fascinating and educational reptile show provided by Snakes & Scales.
Chef and kosher food author Levana Kirschenbaum did a cooking demonstration for the mothers, teaching them how to prepare easy, healthy, kid-friendly meals and everyone got to taste her delectable dishes.
Organizers thanked the volunteers of 8th and 9th grade of Bais Rivkah and Bnos Menachem high schools in Crown Heights. “They came with smiles on their faces, were enthusiastic to help and truly made a kiddush hashem,” they said.
Don’t take it to heart, people are really touchy in these situations. Best of nachas from your kids:-)
