Newly elected Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim was only in office two days when Rabbi Shmuel Posner, Director of Chabad House of Greater Boston, visited him.
Zakim, a former attorney and small business owner, remarked that he hadn’t yet been able to furnish his office.
Rabbi Posner immediately said “I can help you,” and pulled out a Mezuzah, which Councilor Zakim proudly affixed on his door, after reciting the blessing.
He then put on Tefillin, remarking that he hadn’t done it in along time.
Then came the big surprise for the Chabad rabbi. Asking Zakim’s chief of staff, Dan Sibor, if he would like to put on Tefillin, he responded that he never had a Bar Mitzvah.
“Today will be your Bar Mitzvah,” exclaimed Rabbi Posner.
Dan put on Tefillin and was very touched to have had a “Bar Mitzvah”, in such an unexpected way!
Taught our kids in New England Hebrew Academy with love and warmth. That school under Rabbi and Mrs. Ciment is the sunniest place on Earth. Hard to describe, but such simcha and friendliness radiates.
In addition, the Posners serve tens of college students every week, and cook it all themselves.
Thanks for everything.
