And people who value Jewish life, there has to be a BIG emphasis on the WRONG gaza pull out and the lessons learned.

Gilad Shalit, sderot missles in TLV etc.

sharon signed a paper exactly 8 years ago on yud shvat about gush katif and 8 years later sharon died.

What would the Rebbe do?
January 13, 2014 6:33 pm

I never heard the Rebbe say anything negative about any Jew.

#23 Tzadik oif yenoms cheshboin.

I’m sure the 8,000 mean women and children, whose homes, businessess, shuls, yeshivahs were desteroyed and uprooted, not to mention the degradation and shame that was heaped upon them from our enemies, not to mention the mass chillul hashem, will keep your deranged sentiments in mind.

just remember ....

This fellow is DEAD now… why are we dirtying him while he’s in the ground???

Teshuva
January 12, 2014 2:57 pm

His life goes to show what we should all know by now: the only true leader who can bring peace to Israel/mankind is Moshiach. Even an intelligent fellow with a good heart and good intentions and even one who has saved many lives, will be prone to horrible mistakes when put into power, if he does not access the powers of the soul above the intellect. We must change ourselves, chevra, do teshuva, and pray that Israel’s government does the same!

The Title of the New York Times.
Not a better title or description for a man who couldn’t be defined any more than a extreme Zionist, who wasn’t able to hold himself back from making terrible negotiations.
The countless letters that the Rebbe sent Sharon about giving away land, warning him that there will be consequences and backfiring coming from all sides.
Not to mention this goes completely contrary on what is written in the Torah about giving away land.
Unfortunately ignoring everything making things go downstream from then on.

I won’t judge Arik! Only one alone can judge. I don’t agree with what he did but I hope what I heard is true that his death is tied to the coming of Moshiach! RIP Arik!

He who saves one jew is as if he saved an entire world. He put his, and the thousands of other of the IDF lives, on the line without which there would have been no kaili for hashem to destroy the arabs in 48 and 67, 73 and onwards. Clearly his mind had become demented and confused by the time he carried out the “AKTION” against Kush Katif

THE FACT SHARON ENTERED POLITICS SHOWS HE AND HE ALONE WANTED ANYWAY TO STAY IN THE IDF.. YES HE LOVED THE REBBE, YES HE ADMIRED THE REBBE, BUT DIDN’T ALL ISRAELI POLITICIANS.HE DID NOT DO WHAT THE REBBE ASKED.. THE ONE PSAK THE REBBE SPOKE ABOUT DURING THE NESIAS WAS NOT TO GIVE UP AN INCH, AND HE GAVE UP AN ENTIRE TOWN OF 8,000 NESHOMAS.

He did good things. He also did bad,
Now Lets god Judge this man. This man who fought bravely for his country and heartlessly expelled jews from their homes.

Really? Anyone who saw the tears of Jews ripped (literally) out of their homes and left penniless, and is disturbed reading this article, must be stupid and on welfare? Let’s try this– look the families in the eye who’s lives were ruined by this man, many of whom are still on (Israeli) welfare until today, having had their business destroyed by his armies, and tell them that they’re stupid for taking checks from the government, the same government that destroyed everything they had built up. You know why some of us are offended by this article? Because the pain of… Read more »

Don’t dance on other peoples graves; it’s not healthy. You know why I loved Sharon? Because he was hated by all. The Left called him a war criminal and the Right claimed he was a sellout. When you are so universally despised, you must be doing something right. I would love to see all of the self-righteous foreign policy experts on this blog serve in a military and risk their lives for the country they love. The safely ensconced hyper-dependant American Chelmites can’t figure how to collectively screw in a lightbulb, let alone run a country surrounded by people who… Read more »

… It is well known that there was a big prosecution coming down against him and his family for corruption on the casino construction. The left and judiciary told him to evacuate and expell the Jews in Guush Katif and they would not prosecute him and so because of greed he allowed himself to be blackmailed and followed thier orders. This explains how a once great soldier and General for the jewish people suddenly did a complete turnaround and did the bidding of the secular left. If I ask you to forget Yochanan Kohen gadol who became a Tzeduky apkorus… Read more »

Such obnoxious comments posted here– I am appalled. Those who have criticized this article are most probably the uneducated, lazy fools who have no jobs and collect money from hard working folks (just look at the basic grammar mistakes in comment #9.) Get off your bums and maybe do some research and actually READ the article before commenting. Don’t say lashon hara about a person who has passed–it’s probably one of the worst things one can do. Although Ariel Sharon has made a big mistake, the great things he has done in his life for the benefit of the Jewish… Read more »

The Rebbe wrote to him not to enter politics
January 11, 2014 9:49 pm

B”H

There’s a letter in Igros where the Rebbe told him not to enter politics, something that should have been mentioned in this article. (It’s in the chelek chofs — don’t remember which one but could easily be found by looking in the index.

You never know why he gave away land, it could be because of pressure from clinton, dont judge!

Remember GUSH KATIF
January 11, 2014 9:31 pm

I do believe that this article while accurate in its content is a disservice to the reader and to historical record and legacy of the late Mr. Sharon. It behooves each and every person to feel the pain of the Jews of GUSH KATIF, especially with the passing of Mr. Sharon. A most despicable action that any Jewish leader in history has ever done –was perpetrated upon the Jewish residents of GUSH KATIF. No monarch in recorded Jewish history neither during the “First Jewish Commonwealth” lasting over 800 years and neither during the Second Jewish Commonwealth lasting well over 400… Read more »

It is of no coincidence that Ariel Sharon passed away on shabbos on Yud Shvat, the Friederker Rebbe’s Yartzheit. The Frierdiker Rebbe came to escort him from this world to the next. During these 8 years in a coma, he was still alive and I am sure he did tshuva: everyone makes mistakes. Let’s not say Lashon Hora about a fellow Jew who just passed away. That is not the Chabad way.

Absolutely disgusting!
January 11, 2014 9:13 pm

To say such nasty comments—yes, we must remember the harm he caused but don’t forget the good. Even wicked people do some good in life.
AND HE IS A FELLOW JEW.
ANDDD WE JUST FINISHED YUD SHEVAT….
and then people wonder why Mashiach isnt here…

At the end of the day a jewish neshama has left the world.
He was a loving member of some1’s family if not yours.
May his soul rest in peace.

Disgusted
January 11, 2014 8:49 pm

I too am disgusted by this celebration of his life. Have we forgotten the pain and tears we shed for what this man caused?
We know what the Rebbe’s reaction would have been to that!
If you don’t want to say something negative about a Jew who has just died, then better say nothing at all.
I strongly petition Chabad.org take this dispicable artical down immediately.

BDHE
January 11, 2014 8:45 pm

The reason we say BDHE is because only Hashem can judge us. He passed on a Shabbos when there is no Beis Din. Apparently that means that he was a tzaddik . Is anyone going to argue that?

Please change your title!
January 11, 2014 8:06 pm

Why wrote OBM?!!! He destroyed the lives, homes and shul’s – dug up graves in Gush Katif and you saying he is of blessed memory! We don’t need to gloat at his death and it is appropriate to saying BDE. The abishter is the true judge! Also remember in chabad we don’t make hespedim – it says that saying untruths about the mais causes harm. Do is OBM really appropriate?

vision
January 11, 2014 7:34 pm

We dont know what his vision was regarding the GAZA pullout. maybe he pulled out so that he could prove that this will result in violence and would have immediately recaptured it..

He fell it right afterwards and we got olmert.

January 11, 2014 7:19 pm

I am am absolutely horrified by the whitewashing done in this article, how about get the Rebbe Shliach to Gush Katif to talk.

In general there’s this lack of empathy from many American Lubavitchers for what kind of hell the disengagement brought apon THE Jewish people.

Sad that a Jew died....
