The Chabad community in Morristown, New Jersey, went all out to mark 30 years since the Rebbe instituted the daily learning routine of the Rambam’s Mishneh Torah followed by many Jews around the world.
Anash and local Shluchim were invited in advance to attend the Siyum Harambam celebration by Rabbi Moshe Herson, Head Shliach and Dean of Rabbinical College of America.
The event was organized by three motivated bochurim, Mendel Ceitlin, Moshe Denburg and Shaya Gourarie. They were assisted by bochurim Tzvi Rimler and Levi Steinmetz.
Some 200 bochurim of Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim and Tiferes Bachurim were joined by 130 chassidim and Shluchim at the Berger Auditorium for the conclusion of the 32nd learning cycle and beginning the 33rd by Tiferes Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zalman Dubinsky and Mashpia Rabbi Elimelech Zwiebel.
Welcoming the crowd was Tomchei Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zalman Wilschansky. Following a dvar malchus by the bochur Menachem Mendel Galperin, a video was shown of the Rebbe publicly concluding the Rambam for the first time at a farbrengen in 770 Eastern Parkway.
Speaking about the advantage of knowing the laws of Torah and learning Rambam were Rabbi Herson, Tomchei’s Menahel Rabbi Aaron Dovid Gancz, head of the smicha program Rabbi Chaim Shapiro and Tal Lewis, a bochur of Tiferes.
The guest speaker, flown in for the occasion, was Rabbi Mendel Feller, a Shliach to S. Paul, Minnesota, who is known for his knowledge in Chassidic history and its teachings.
A spontaneous dance concluded the event and was followed by a farbrengen that continued until 5:30 AM when Rabbi Feller left to Newark Airport to make his flight home for Shabbos.
During the farbrengen, Monroe Shliach Rabbi Eliezer Zaklikovsky spoke about the need to study the Likutei Sichos series of the Rebbe’s sichos. Responding to the call, bochurim on the spot divided the 39 volumes to be learned by them until next year.
