If you want to hear about the special relationship between two of the greatest Jewish leaders in recent history, head to Yeshiva University.
The Student Organization of Yeshiva Jewish Studies Council (SOY-JSC), Chabad Club of Yeshiva University and Chabad of Washington Heights are organizing the lecture event “Living the Legacy of the Rebbe and the Rav.”
It will explore the connection between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Rabbi Joseph Dov Soloveitchik, the undisputed leader of American Modern Orthodoxy who served as Rosh Yeshiva of Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS).
The event is set to take place in Yeshiva University’s Wilf Campus in Washington Heights, Manhattan on Monday, February 3, 2014 (3 Adar I) from 8:15pm-9:45pm in Furst Hall’s Room 501 auditorium.
The event will feature an introduction from Rabbi Moshe Weinberger, Mashpia in RIETS and rov of Congregation Aish Kodesh in Woodmere, NY.
Speaking from a Chabad perspective will be Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, the Rebbe’s personal secretary and Chairman of the educational and social services arms of Lubavitch, and Rabbi YY Jacobson, renowned orator and dean of TheYeshiva.net.
Additionally, speeches will be given by Rabbi Zevulun Charlop, dean emeritus of RIETS and Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, University Professor of Jewish History and Jewish Thought in Yeshiva University.
“This incredible event will not only be groundbreaking and of an unprecedented nature, but will also be the largest event we organized,” said Daniel Fordham, President of the Chabad Club of Yeshiva University.
The club holds a weekly Thursday night chassidus learning program between university students and bochurim from Beis Medrash Oholei Torah in Crown Heights.
Some 90 students attended a Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen with Chabad scholar Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe and Rabbi Hershel Reichman, Rosh Yeshiva of RIETS.
There will be a video presentation and Q&A with the speakers. Suggested donation at the door is $5. Men and women are welcome to attend. Register at http://bit.do/livingthelegacy.

The Rebbe and the Rav attended the Sorbonne at the same time. More will come out at the event tomorrow night, BEZ”H.
Danny, you ARE the best! Working so hard without stop on this amazing program! We’re cheering you on!
Your fan club in Needham!
I hope you’re joking… right?
Rabbi Chaim Prus had a close relationship with Rabbi Soloveitchik and was instrumental in arranging his attendance at the Rebbe’s Farbrengen.
Calling the Rav modern orthodox is no service to the Rav? What is mod ox today is not what the Rav was or ever stood for!
One of the bochurim that served as a helper by Rabbi JBS told me that during the time that the ‘Rav’ was not well he personally answered telephones coming from mazkirus of the Rebbe asking that the rebbe wants to know how he is doing.
many people has a shaychus to RYBS. but YY Jacobson was about 14 years old in 1986 when RYBS was no longer able to converse with people…
Rabbi Krinsky in addition to the obvious , being the rebbes mazkir, is a Bostonian his family including his father reb Shmaya Had a special relationship with Rabbi Soloveitchick.
Wow. As a YU alumn, I plan to attend, and wish the organizers tremendous success!!
Will there be a live feed
Can it be on COL ???
Why is Chabad enthralled with Rabbi Soloveitchik – the patriarch of modern orthodoxy – connection with the Rebbe?
YY Jacobson also had a major shaychus with the Rav. R’ Shemtov was not the only one.
Although you must have put a lot of thought into that comment, it is not very humorous at all. If you were referencing the ‘modern’ values that the YU communities show, maybe one needs to look inside their own 4 amos
I have a friend who’s a talmid of the rav and he will not believe the rav had a connection with the rebbe ?????
it’s YU were talking about! 😉
It says at the end of the article “Men and women are
welcome to attend.”
Is the event open to men and women?
Go Danny!
Wasn’t rabbi Avrohom Shemtov majorly involved in having the Rav visit the rebbe? I would imagine it would help if he were to be invited to the panel of these already great speakers. Looking forward to the event.
Hatzlacha Daniel in your shlichus!!
