Mrs. Shira Frank, a social worker for over 30 years specializing in family therapy, play therapy and parent training, is receiving praise for the first book she’s written.
“50 Pathways to Parenting Wisdom,” published by Israel Bookshop Publications, is presented as a practical and easy-to-implement guide to parenting Jewish children in an increasingly complex world.
A featured lecturer on Kol Halashon, where she presents 18 classes on topics of marital issues and child-rearing, Frank says her book is intended for “mothers and fathers who want help in raising happy and healthy children in today’s difficult times.”
Praise for the book which combines Torah knowledge and psychological theory has been effusive from rabbis, educators and teachers from across the spectrum of the Jewish community.
“Without question, the greatest challenge people face is ‘successful parenting,'” says Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, a noted psychiatrist and the author of more than 60 books.
“The traditions and practices that formed the framework in the shtetl are gone, and the high-tech, instant-gratification of our culture require special techniques to raise healthy, productive, happy and respectful children. Shira Frank has provided us with 50 techniques, stated concisely and clearly, to help us meet this awesome challenge of modern life.”
Yeshiva University’s Dr. David Pelcowitz, notes that Frank tackled challenges such as helping children deal with divorce, and provides guidance for parents of children with attention deficit disorder, anxiety disorders or pervasive developmental disorder.
“Shira Frank has provided our community with an invaluable resource for helping parents navigate the increasingly complex demands of raising children,” he wrote. “I highly recommend this book.”
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Glukowsky of Rechovot, who knows Mrs. Frank, said: “She has given much expertise in the field. People will only gain from her words of wisdom and insight, that she can offer to others.”
Mrs. Sarah Marasow, a kallah teacher in Crown Heights, has worked professionally with Frank for years.
“Shira combines the wisdom of Torah-oriented psychology with practical down-to-earth advice,” he said. “The book is a must-read for every parent who is aspiring to raise the next generation in a happy, warm and Chassidishe environment.”
