More than 100 people gathered outside of Shoprite Mall in Liberty, NY on Saturday night, November 30th, for the historic lighting of the Chanukah Menorah.
Mr. Charlie Barbuti Town of Liberty Supervisor, Mr. Dan Ratner Village of Liberty Mayor, Joan Stoddard, Village of Liberty Trustee, Mr. Brian McPhillips Town of Liberty Councilman, and Village of Liberty Police Chief Scott Kinne joined community members and friends with Rabbi Yossi Hurwitz of Chabad of Swan Lake, in the festive ceremony.
The joyous crowd sang the blessing together while Mayor Dan Ratner lit the Menorah, With live music, dancing, traditional Chanukah refreshments such as Latkes, donuts and Chanukah gelt, it was quite an event!
Rabbi Yossi Hurwitz thanked Shop rite for all their assistance and involvement in such an important holiday. He also showed gratitude towards the elected officials, and the entire community for being a part of such an auspicious occasion.
“Everyone came out in the freezing cold tonight to support the Supervisor, the Mayor and all elected officials in this incredible city,” said Hurwitz in his remarks. “The holiday of Chanukah and Thanksgiving both symbolize freedom and liberty. Therefore, what can be better than to celebrate Liberty in the City of Liberty?”
Mrs. Natalie Myers, a resident of Liberty, NY, said “I lived here all my life, over 40 years, I never saw anything like this. What a great feeling to celebrate a Jewish holiday in such a beautiful atmosphere!
The spirit and ambiance was happy and festive, and the dancing was going on for over an hour!”
People returned home with high spirits, smiling faces and a warm Chanukah feeling!

Wow! Shame I missed it. I’m coming next year!!
In the many years that I have been going to the Catskills, I’ve never seen such a joyful, celebrated Chanukah as this one. A huge Yasher Koach to Rabbi Y Hurwitz and all those who made the Chanukah- Shoprite event happen! What a huge Kiddush Hashem!
Who is the mayor? Is it the guy in the 5th picture?
Is that outside Shoprite?
Maybe mention the sponcers of the event and thank them also!!!!!!! If someone paid and help pay it is a Mitzvah to thank them also!!!!!!!
