Nshei and Young Nshei Chabad of Melbourne gathered together Thursday evening to celebrate Yud Tes Kislev, Chag haGeulah of the Alter Rebbe.
Over 130 ladies gathered to hear Rabbi Binyomin Cohen, Rosh Yeshiva of the Yeshiva Gedolah discuss what Chassidus, pnimiyus haTorah as taught by the Alter Rebbe added to the learning and understanding of Torah.
He mentioned that one of his Rosh Yeshivahs once called him in and asked why it was not enough to learn Gemorah, why he felt it necessary to learn Chassidus.
Rabbi Cohen proceeded to elaborate to the ladies by way of an example from the story of Rivkah Imenu when she went to inquire of Shem v’Aver regarding the struggle she felt within her during her pregnancy about the Chassidic concept of a nefesh Elokis and nefesh haBehamis present in every Jew.
The constant struggle and the ultimate victory of Yaakov, the nefesh Elokis. It was not just a talk about Chassidus but an actual Chassidic lesson, which was very refreshing and inspirational.
There was a musical interlude and short selections from the video “The Alter Rebbe.”
Refreshments were served, raffles drawn and small kits with two glass candle holders and a laminated picture of the Alter Rebbe were distributed.
The evening concluded with the first time raffle draw for a trip to the Chof Beis Shvat Convention which was won by Mrs. Debbie Doron.
