The red carpet was rolled out this past Thursday, as the IYYUN Center in downtown Brooklyn celebrated a triple simcha, bringing their grand opening in June of 2012 to a full circle.
The completion of their first Sefer Torah in memory of Rabbi DovBer Pinson‘s mother, Rochel Pinson OBM, coincided with her second yartzeit and marked the completion of phase 1 of renovations in the beautiful new Chabad center – unveiling the ‘Event Hall at IYYUN’.
The celebration also occurred within the week of the momentous occasion of the wedding of Rochel Pinson’s youngest child, and the mezinke of the entire Drizin family, Chaya, to Motti Groner and, at the conclusion of the celebration, Sheva Brochos were recited.
This event brought together both the incredibly diverse IYYUN community, ranging from the very secular hipsters to a wide variety of chassidim, and everyone in between, and the Drizin, Pinson and Wineberg families from Crown Heights, resulting in a beautiful overflow crowd of over 500 people, all gathering to celebrate these incredible milestones together.
All aspects of the event were beautifully curated and presented – along with an incredible Torah Mantle that was lovingly designed by the Shlucha Rochie Pinson and custom produced by Judaica Creations.
Thanking the major contributors to both the Torah and the recent renovations, Rabbi Pinson, world renowned scholar and lecturer, acknowledged the incredible devotion and dedication of his close talmidim and mekuravim.
The absence of a major contributor, Jorian (Yonah) Polis- Schutz, was noted as a source of nachas, as he is presently studying in yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael.
Also thanked and acknowledged were financier, Gershon Bell, Morris and Aaron Wolfson, Gennadiy Bogolyubov, Akiva Reich, Richard and Mimi Friedman, Cynthia Unterberg and Bonnie Kozek and Jacob Ween.
It was also acknowledged and noted that each and every member of the IYYUN community, both local and global, had contributed and become a part of this Torah, making this a true Torah of Unity.
Spirits were high and the mood was joyful as the singing and dancing took to the streets of downtown Brooklyn, creating a beautiful Kiddush Hashem.
In addition to providing a beautiful setting for their many events, the IYYUN Event Hall fills a growing need for more space for Simchas in nearby Crown Heights, including Brissim, Upshernish, Sheva Brochos and L’Chaims.

She was a warm & welcoming woman. Her Shabbos table was one of the Crown Heights experiences that inspired me toward Yiddishkeit years & years ago.
