Today, 25 of Cheshvan, is the first yartzeit of R’ Rafael Namdar, a businessman in Italy who helped build the Chabad community and activities in Milan.
He had the great merit to have been “handpicked” by the Rebbe to be connected to him, and he continued his unique and close relationship with the Rebbe over the years.
For many years Namdar has personally covered the electric bill of Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn and has donated the carpeting there.
He passed away at the age of 93. He left behind a large family of chassidim and shluchim, among them his children Yisroel (Milan), Rachel Vardi (Tel Aviv), Rabbi Michoel Namdar (New York), Batsheva Chamami (Rechovot), Shmuel Namdar (Long Island) and Rabbi Alexander Namdar, Head Shliach of Sweden.
His son Daniel Namdar A”H passed away 20 years ago in a car crash. He too was very devoted to the Rebbe and many of his Shluchim, always with a smile and a good word.
He is buried in the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Cambria Heights, Queens, where his family visited to daven on Tuesday to mark his first yartzeit.
