Is it really that hard to move?

Sad
October 31, 2013 11:54 pm

No wonder Crown Heights is such a garbage dump. Proof in black and white. People are taking advantage of others. Peope get annoyed. the atmosphere gets tense. It becomes an argument. It becomes a fight. Soon its a war. The people wonder why Crown Heights is so ugly and knee-deep with trash, and why so many move out to cleaner, yet chassidish, communities, such as Cleveland, Los Angeles, etc. LA’er and I’m proud.

the mikva there costs $5 per use.
Maybe charge a $5 or $10 deposit, and only give it back after the person takes away all their trash.
And a big sign “No tresspassing. Permission is only granted to use this mikvah if you clean up all your packaging material”.

wow
October 31, 2013 12:31 am

i’ve used that mikvah – erev pesach – and took away even the little bags around each spoon! So what if it was erev pesach and I was in a rush? I took everything back home in my shopping cart, the way my mother taught me. Littering is AGAINST THE LAW, and a mitzvah connected to an aveira…. not a good idea.
Stop being a slob.
Cleanliness is next to G-dliness, and the mess at the mikva is anything but.
If your mom never taught you to be a mentch, then teach yourself!
P.S. Thank you Sterling for the mikvah.

bring your 15 passenger and clean it up! Come one people! Help a yid out!

How is this different than what we usually do?
October 29, 2013 9:41 am

Go into a restaurant on Kingston Ave – the minhag is to leave trash for someone else to take care of

You are one selfish fellow I lI’ve on that block and have a garage in that ally and give full permission for people to park toivel

charge a fee
October 29, 2013 2:43 am

In Los Angeles the Kelim Mikvah has a Pushka slot on the wall that goes into the Shul Office. The fee for Toiveling your Keilim is $2.00 per use. Maybe something similar can be arranged at Sterling so the fee can go towards hiring someone to clear all the boxes once a day.

I dont understand
October 29, 2013 1:45 am

i dont know why people just cant look for a bin and throw away their garbage into a bin, and why cant the store have a big bin for their customers even if they do provide the mikveh, i dont understand why people will just throw there stuff in the street the store is nice enough to have the mikveh there for you to use be a mensh and throw the boxes and garbage in to the bin

To # 25
October 29, 2013 1:42 am

Not only their customers toivel there – that is part of the problem. To 15 – I don’t hear any “old” women making those silly comments…

what's with CH?
October 28, 2013 11:11 pm

I live in Chicago with two kelim mikvahs. I have never, ever seen garbage and boxes lying around. I am lost for an explanation why people have such poor sense of etiquette and midos.

Not a mitzvah
October 28, 2013 11:03 pm

To all the well meaning people who park in the alley while toiveling kelim. Please realize that you need to toivel again because you have absolutely no permission to park in the alley.

to #21
October 28, 2013 9:54 pm

it’s a mighty tight fit getting through that particular alley as it is. where do you propose these oversized bins be placed and who do you propose break up the garbage for recycling? there are times when we’d be best off not making an issue of a tissue (or carton, or box for that matter.) just accept that the job of taiveling dishes does not end until you’ve properly disposed of/ carted off the mess that taiveling generates. Bring a recycling garbage bag with you if you must, fill it with your own boxes etc ,and bring the filled bag… Read more »

To #15 and others like minded, if you have a few boxes to shlep and then can’t put the dishes back in the boxes, don’t bring the boxes in the first place, get rid of them at home and bring the keilim in a bag the same as you plan to take them home in.

October 28, 2013 7:59 pm

Sterling is mensch enough to offer the Mikvah free of charge. If you use it, couldn’t you contribute a bin to the alley? If you can’t afford one, couldn’t you pitch in with others to buy one? And the boxes are left in such a mess. Is it alley cats, mice, people who make that mess? People, do something! Show that you are thankful for the gift of the free Mikvah; I’m sur you can find a way to show your gratitude.

October 28, 2013 7:44 pm

maybe consider having someone periodically clean up .People are slobs. the best idea is have someone there when it’s open & charge them for the use they pay in store. customers who purchase by you you can include it in the price. That is the fairest way

You are out of your mind

I can only imagine what their homes look like. But on the other hand, I’m sure they are immaculate – all their crap is outside this mikveh.

dont believe it
October 28, 2013 6:03 pm

I cant believe the gimmee, gimmee mentality of #10! You mean people wouldnt toivel dishes if they had to go elsewhere? huh? Just bec. someone provides a service to the community, does he have to be punished with fines?? and how do you know the fines are cheap? maybe you would like to be mezakeh the oilom with a mitzva and pay the fine? and what about chillul hashem? thats a big one too! grow up and learn to be a mentsch.

What should be done if something overflows?
October 28, 2013 5:58 pm

Get a bigger keli.

May the brochos continue to overflow.

we should do the same in 770
October 28, 2013 5:37 pm

from now on when you go to your local shul or 770 bring a bag and take out your garbage this will save 770 thousands of dollars and save us from a chillul hashem, always carry garbage bags with you so you will never leave trash anywhere

October 28, 2013 5:23 pm

This is not charity, this is a service that is rendered for free provided people do not abuse it. Even if you can compare it to a soup kitchen (which you cannot) do you throw your dirty plate on the floor? They provide trash bins but if they are full is that a reason to just leave the boxes anywhere and create a chilul hashem and make problems for the store owners? Seriously people should just pick up after themselves like their mommy taught them.

They’re doing a great chessed and favor to everyone by providing the community with a mikvah to toivel the keilim. To show some appreciation, I think it would be appropiate for us to make sure to keep the area clean by not leaving our boxes around. It’s a matter of hakaros hatov, and not taking advantage of the fact that once they’re giving us a mikvah to use, we can do whatever we want and make them cleanup. It’s ok to take some responsibility

sorry not practical…..

can we govern ourselves? do we have to be policed like baby’s!! JUST A LITTLE MENCHLICHKEIT!!!!!

dont leave your garbage and dont block the ally

Take away the bins.
October 28, 2013 4:31 pm

Simple consequence – no bins.
Thank you for the mikvah we hope it stays open.

im sure your ally is spotless, g-d forbid for someone to put a box in YOUR ALLY otherwise you will be stuck in your house!!

are you serious where is your ahavas yisroel? when a young women shleps 6 or 10 boxes to toivel once you take it out its not possible to put it back the way it came (unless they are as talented as you) thats why the store has garbage cans!! so be kind and put more garbage cans out

PS thats what anybody who lives in a place with lots of garbage does

put up a cemera at the mikvah and post it on collive to show all who throws away their boxes and who does not.

THANK YOU COLLIVE FOR POSTING

As a neighbor (and user) of the mikvah, I have to respectively disagree with comment #1 and #11 and also voice mine and many of my neighbors frustrations/complaints. 1) As mentioned, whenever I use the mikvah I make sure to take all my packaging with me (perhaps because it effects me personally I am sensitive to it) with regards to sterling, I think they offer a very nice service by maintaining the mikvah etc and they shouldn’t be responsible for taking away the packaging/garbage. I would even venture to say and suggest to sterling that they remove all garbage receptacles… Read more »

they should put a pushka and ask anyone who uses the mikavah especially who leaves garbage to pay$5 i would gladly have done that when i used it 2 months ago

October 28, 2013 3:17 pm

is that how it works in a soup kitchen, everyone needs to take their garbage with them? part of providing a charity is providing trash bins

dont understand
October 28, 2013 3:03 pm

we spend millions in helping others in need if we close the mikvah people will be eating from dishes that were not toivelt, just as you make the mikvah as tzedakah so is the cleanup you are helping people eat kosher which is a huge mitzvah with a small price to pay

100% agreed

Simple Concept
October 28, 2013 2:38 pm

Carry in/Carry out.

If you bring packaging take it with you. Don’t leave it there.

While I definitely benefit from this kelim mikvah, if people can’t clean up after themselves then just close it.

disgusting
October 28, 2013 2:31 pm

You went to the mikvah with your stuff in boxes, bring it all home in the boxes. This is a disgrace. Do you teach your children to just leave their garbage wherever they happen to be standing because there is nowhere else to throw it away???? To #1, be a mentch. Please. Just put the wrapping in your pocket and throw it away. Disappointing.

dont blame the people, if you are going to build a mikvah for the community you need to make sure you can handle the crowds, the bins get filled within a hour after they are emptied and the rest goes on the floor.
