Rabbi Eliyahu Raitport, a longtime resident of Boro Park, passed away Monday, 26 Tishrei, at the age of 87.
He was known as a brilliant inventor who loved to Daven b’Avodah.
Rabbi Raitport was born in Zhitomir, Ukraine in 1926 to Reb Chaim and Pesha Raitport. When the war broke out they fled inland to Samarkand, Russia. Suffering from pneumonia, Reb Chaim passed away during the trip.
After the war Rebbetzin Pesha emigrated to the United States while her two sons, Eliyahu and Yitzchok travelled to France, later making their way to the United States.
R. Eliyahu held a degree in electrical engineering, and was known as a brilliant inventor whose inventions are used in our day to day lives. His work took him all over the states until settling in Boro Park.
He was a longtime mispallel in the Tzemach Tzedek Shul on 46th Street in Boro Park, and was known by his fellow congregants as an oived who spent many hours in prayer.
He is survived by his children Mrs. Miriam Shapiro – Crown Heights, and Mrs. Suri Roubini – Milan, Italy as well as his brother Rabbi Yitzchok Raitport.
The Levayah will take place tomorrow, Tuesday leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 10:00 am and passing by 770 at 10:45 am.
Shiva will take place at the home of the Shapiro family, 1480 Carroll St. until Friday afternoon.
From Motzaei Shabbos until Monday morning shiva will be at the home of Harav Yitzchok Raitport – 1739 49th St in Boro Park.
Shacharis: 8 AM
Mincha and Maariv: Bizmana
Nichum Availim will be all day until 10:30 PM
They will be getting up from Shiva on Monday morning.

Very, very sorry to hear.
Among many, many patents that he held was one for the push buttons that have been used in all telephones and keyboards since the 1970s. He also held a patent for an airless tire, which you are now starting to see on the roads. His designs for ecologically friendly buildings are also being implemented in many major cities now around the world. Hashem made the man a visionary, who was truly beyond teva. His innovative energy (and tremendous sense of humor!) will be sorely missed.

His sweet beautiful davening still rings in my ears, many years later, I think about him each time I daven on Shabbos. יהא זכרו ברוך.
