Giant of a man isn't enough
August 29, 2013 9:22 am

This rov took on Dr. Berg singlehandedly with all his koichos, with all his money; he did not back down from his principle for even one minute. Truly, because of his efforts, many unaffiliated Jews in Toronto, would have fancied the thought of stepping through Kabbalah Centre’s doors on Sheppard Avenue, got the feeling that it’s somehow “issur” and “foreign” to mainstream Judaism.

Yup, I agree!

the comments should keep on coming so we can all gain some more insight from what this giant of a chossid was all about. Please collive………. keep this web site alive on the side – I’d love to hear more stories and tales of Imanuel life.

These postings should continue on for a while...

Maybe COLlive.com can stick the web page on the side and keep it lingering awhile for most comments… rather than automatically throw it into archives. Let’s keep his memory alive with different stories… there’s tons of them… Agreed?

Missing a wonderful Rov, a wonderful man
August 28, 2013 3:07 pm

We were fortunate and blessed to have Rov Immanuel Schochet as our own Rabbi at Beth Joseph Lubavitch. We miss him deeply, every single day. Such a wonderful, knowledgeable and caring soul is rare and we had the merit to have him as our guide. Deepst condolences to the Rebbitzin and family. HIs teachings live on in his family, his congragation and in thousands of Jews around the world. A wonderful evening for a wonderful man….. Until the imminent arrival of Mosiach.

You are most fortunate to have had a recent meeting with Rov Schochet down south to work out you and your husband’s troubles in Canada… as I know first hand he was out of commission for private consultations for a good 2 years, as his health was in a touch and go precarious scenario… I am surprised.

What a man

This rabbi was a very good guy. I’m sure many people can say that. I personally know that he helped my husband and I deal with a tough situation we encountered when dealing with some very cruel people. He was very to the point and solved things easily. He was passionate about only allowing GOOD people in your life. No matter what – Cut you losses and surround yourself with only good people. I had looked forward to seeing him when I went to Canada again – literally, a week or two after his passing. Deepest condolences to his family.

I am not Chabad
August 27, 2013 5:16 pm

someone redirected me to this site. I was there last night. I cried during the video. I shed more tears by each of the son’s speeches. I am glad for the opportunity to watch it all again. But today I smiled. Just like Rav Shochet would want. koi lachoi!

Small correction:
August 27, 2013 5:15 pm

He translated iggeros hakodesh (as oppose to iggeres hatshuvah) into English, one of the most complex and difficult parts of chaidis, together with an introduction which was later published as a book for itself.

so was I

it was very special. we don’t have many well attended events in Toronto like last night. Me and my wife walked away uplifted and committed to new things in our lives. The 2 boys spoke beautifully and the Rav was very moving.

U @ BUFFALO
August 27, 2013 5:10 pm

I was one of the young students at Buffalo University in the early 1970s who was instantly and magically affected by Rabbi Shochot. I was the perfect hippie searching for meaning and God made sure Immanuel touched down on university campus. Thank God for that. He will be a blessing, and a happy one at that to all of us folks and to his family – that no one can deny.

There's nothing what to say, but....

THERE IS SOMETHING WHAT TO DO.
To bring Moshiach.
Rav Shuchat was a man of action. He probably holds the guiness world of records

No. 1, I was there also

The video itself was outstanding and inspirational… You could have shed a tear, but HaRov Immanuel would have said: “Move forward my flock, be happy, I am in a better place, I will make continue to bring Moshiach alongside our Rebbe”!!

What an inspiring evening
August 27, 2013 2:22 pm

The shloshim of rabbi Schochet was one of the most inspiring evenings I have ever attended. From the siyum and words of one of his grandsons to the memories recounted by a brother and sons, everyone left the event truly touched. May rabbi Schochet’s neshomo have an Aliya.

Bummed I missed this..
