New Yorkers Travel to Kazakhstan

A group from New York was joined by others from Sydney and Russia at the gravesite of R' Levi Yitzchok Schneerson in Almaty.

A group of Lubavitchers traveled to the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan to mark the 20th of Menachem Av, yartzeit of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, father of the Rebbe.

Reb Levik was the Rabbi of Yekatrinoslav (today, Dnepropetrovsk) who was arrested by the communist regime for his fearless stance against efforts to eradicate Jewish learning and practice in the Soviet Union.

Coming to daven at his gravesite was a group of chassidim from New York which included Rabbi Sholom Duchman, Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook, Rabbi Yisroel Shimon Kalmenson, R' Sholom Laine, Rabbi Levi Azimov and R' Sholom Rosenfeld.

They were joined by Rabbi Dovid Mundshine of Moscow, Rabbi Levi Wolf of Sydney, Australia, and Rabbi Osher Krichevsky of Omsk in Russia.

They held a Farbrengen meal at the Ohr Avner Chabad school in the city.
