A fundraiser for the reelection of Charles Hynes to the Office of the District Attorney of Kings County was held last Monday in Crown Heights.
Some 30 guests came to mingle over drinks and refreshments at the home of Zaki Tamir, Chairman of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council.
“It was a formal event but a very comfortable and informal environment that allowed for guests to approach the DA and to discuss with Mr. Hynes concerns and questions about how the DA’s office functions,” Tamir said, noting that it wasn’t connected to his communal position.
Tamir worked for Hynes from 2005 to 2009 as Assistant District Attorney and publicly thanked his former boss “for giving me such good training.”
The District Attorney, sporting a velvet yarmulka with his name, joked as he recounted that as a child, his family and the apartment building Super were the only “goyim” in the building and that the young Joe Hynes took the job of “shabbos goy” very seriously.
In a recent radio interview on Zev Brenner‘s Talkline program, Hynes shared his thoughts on the Crown Heights race riots of 1991.
Those violent days were most recently brought to light by a preview of an upcoming memoir to be published by former Mayor David Dinkins titled “A Mayor’s Life: Governing New York’s Gorgeous Mosaic.”
Dinkins acknowledged that while he bears some responsibility for the riots that ultimately took the life of 29-year-old yeshiva student Yankel Rosenbaum, much of the blame belongs to his former police commissioner, Lee Brown.
“It was a very painful period for David Dinkins,” said Hynes on the radio, according to VIN News website. “He was a decent man, a good mayor.”
But Hynes pointed the finger of blame at both Dinkins and the police commissioner, saying it wasn’t until the third day of the riots, when someone threw a rock at Dinkins and he saw firsthand how far the situation had deteriorated, that the mayor ordered the police department to marshal all of its resources in order to bring the chaos to an end.
“It was a sad day: a pogrom, or it appeared to be a pogrom,” reflected Hynes.
Hynes expressed his belief that today, Brooklyn’s many residents embrace their cultural differences.
“I think we glory in our diversity,” noted Hynes. “I doubt very much that something like Crown Heights could ever happen again.”
No he is not. Be real with your self. Have you been keeping track of Joe hynes record in the jewish community.
The DA shows that he is with Crown Heights and supports Lubavitchers when he agrees to come to these parties. He is a good person and he is on our side!
as someone who witnessed firsthand the riots and the trials and hynes and dinkins and dont forget lee browns response it is a true disgrace that these people who claim to represent the crownhieghts community hold a fundraiser for hynes
i will be votong for the opposition

When will Zaki Tamir be running for public office. The body language in these pictures says it all.
You might have your complaints about the DA, but seriously, jews complain about everything even in torah you see it so clearly that no matter what moses did – the jews would complain. and btw to #5 if you were implying that you think the DA is jewish, you are mistaken, he isn’t. All you cats complaining about Schochat being prosecuted should get your facts straight – how do you think Schochat’s name and info got to the DA – yes… thats right, YOU/WE turned him in, he was turned over by his brothers and sisters in CH, look it… Read more »
something like Crown Heights could ever happen again.” Thank you Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes for being candid. ‘You doubt it…’ But you are not certain. After the first night’s murder (Nelson had murder in his heart…it could easily have been a murder, not manslaughter) the pogrom continued for THREE DAYS! Perhaps their might be more murders? This even was: ‘The First Government Supported Murder of Jews in the History of The United States,’ right HERE in THE BIG APPLE! (Not some small ‘hick-town.’) ALSO how could all the ‘911’ tapes be erased? Security exists here? According to a local… Read more »
“Blacks get away with every thing.” In which America is that taking place. Because I don’t see that at all.

How can Zaki Tamir who is on the vaad hakohol (which is supposed to represent the community) support and bring into his home someone who is obviously NOT good and never has been good for this community????
DA Hynes has repeatedly declined to file charges on real hate crimes perpetrated against Jews in our neighborhood but jumped at the opportunity to extradite a young father who was defending our community against an assault from known criminals!!
to post # 6 yr so right , i could not have said it better. i live on president street and heard with my own ears
racist al sharpton screeming with rev dorthery ” kill the jews and there children . ”
blacks get away with every thing . they can do no wrong
The ’91 riots can’t happen again only because 1991 is over, but what about in 2091? And who would have thought the 1991 riots could have happened either, but they did.
It appeared to be a pogrom…., really???? I remember one of those by invitation only meetings held after the pogrom that I was allowed to attend (with a warning not ask any meaningful questions) with DA Hynes held at the community council. In attendance were the very dedicated people from our community who had worked hours upon hours restoring security for Jews in the neighborhood and helping victims recover. After being lectured by the DA on the need to learn to get along with our non-Jewish neighbors and receiving a muddled answer as to why Al Sharpton, yemach sh’mo, was… Read more »
Charles Hynes is a pathetic loser who’s being investigated on many accounts, he takes every opportunity to go after religious Jews to show the world that being Jewish does not affect him.
he may not be the best but what makes you think someone else will be better?
what makes you think someone else will help out the jewish people? or are they using us for their votes
Wow I missed a great event. Actually I am shocked that without any embarrassment this event took place. I mean forgetting emotions logically the vast majority of Crown Heights will be better off when G-D willing Hynes loses the election.
So now we invite and welcome the DA who has done nothing to stop crime here but has made it his life’s mission to arrest jews!!
He is useless and so is his staff. ALL of them.
