Top Democrat Speaks at Seminary

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz visited Chabad in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and addressed the students and faculty of the Chaya Aydel Seminary.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz visited Chabad of South Broward Headquarters in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and addressed the students and faculty of the Chaya Aydel Seminary, on Monday, May 20th. The Congresswoman was visibly inspired by the young ladies, and responded to questions students and faculty asked.

The visit was a celebration of Jewish Heritage Month, celebrated annually in the month of May in the USA. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the late Arlen Specter were the driving forces in creating Jewish Heritage Month.

Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, dean of the Seminary and executive-vice-president of Chabad of South Broward introduced the Congresswoman, and recalled the numerous times they shared the podium in rallies supporting Israel.

Before the Congresswoman spoke, Seminary student Rivkah Deray from Pittsburgh eloquently relayed a story about the Rebbe, which focused on the quality and significance of Jewish leadership. Rabbi Tennenhaus publicly thanked the Congresswoman for her efforts in pursuing justice for Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, and for this the Congresswoman was applauded by all the students and faculty. He also shared the "breakthrough" the Rebbe had when the Rebbe appointed the Shluchos as co-directors of Chabad Houses, thus empowering Jewish women to be full fledged leaders, long before the Womens' Rights Movement sought equality for women in the workplace.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz spoke about her early years in politics, her current career in which she juggles being both a Congresswoman representing a very significant part of South Florida, the Chair of the National Democratic Party, and last but not least being a wife and mother of three children.

Rochie Schneiderman, a student whose parents are Shluchim in the college town of Newark, Delaware, asked if the Congresswoman ever faced discrimination in being a woman. Rochie followed up with some additional "tough" questions and the Congresswoman answered each question with poise, patience and admiration.

Rabbi Levi Tennenhaus, program director of Chabad of South Broward, asked whether the Congresswoman would one day like to run for the presidency. The Congresswoman responded, "my ambition is to become the Speaker, but one of my children would like me to be president".

Faculty present included Rabbi Yossi Lebovics, Seminary Principal, Rabbi Moshe Schwartz, Seminary and Chabad of South Broward Administrator, Rabbi Mordy Feiner, Kollel Director of South Broward and one of the Seminary anchor teachers, Mrs Goldie Tennenhaus, Co-Director of Chabad of South Broward, Rabbi Mendy Tennenhaus, Chabad's Director of Development and Mrs Chanie Lebovics, Seminary Director of Curriculum. The father of Mrs Lebovics, Rabbi Aron Lieberman, Shliach in Ft Lauderdale, was the first Shliach to know and have influence on the Congresswoman. Mrs Debbie Wasserman Schultz is never shy to say that she was "Rabbi Lieberman's driver" in Tallahassee, when she worked for Peter Deutsch, who then (in the late 1980's) was a government leader in the State of Florida before becoming a US Congressman. Rabbi Lieberman studied Torah with Peter Deutsch, and often delivered invocations in the State Capitol.

After posing for a group picture, the Congresswoman was given a tour by Rabbi and Mrs Tennenhaus, and Rabbi Schwartz, of the state of the art Mikvahs in Hallandale Beach. These are the only Mikvahs in the Southeastern United States built for the physically challenged. The tour left a deep impression on the Congresswoman, who expressed an interest in making a visit to the Chaya Aydel Seminary an annual event.

Dugma Chai
My daughter is in this SEM. I am appalled that you brought this woman to my daughter. Mrs. Wasserman is known to say anything to destroy her opponents. Even as a Democrat I am ashamed by her actions. I trust a seminary to expose my daughter to true Dugma Chai, an Eishes Chayel.

Amazing Serminary!!
As a proud parent of a student of Chaya Aydel Seminary, I highly recommend this seminary for parents to consider for their daughters. Their warmth, dedication, caring and going all out for their students is what makes the seminary truly exceptional! I would sign my name however I don't want to embarrass my daughter. I* will however express my gratitude directly to the honholla.
With appreciation; proud parents!!

Pittsburgh girls!
Nice to see our wonderful Pittsburgh girls - even if you're kind of hiding in the picture! I know that you're both bringing your unique gifts and humor to seminary!
Proud teacher

Wondering ...
What is the point of, or the value in, having this liberal hack/ spokesperson for the current anti-Semitic regime speak to our girls? This is worse than a waste of time.
(5/22/2013 1:40:41 PM)
Kol Hakavod
It is so nice to see Tznius Lubavitcher girls having Hashpa'ah on our elected officials.

To #22
Anti-Semitic is defined by the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary as: "hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group."

Please provide empirical evidence to support the claim that the current "regime" is anti-Semitic.

It appears as if the only person who displays an openly hostile viewpoint towards another Jew(s), is yourself.

Projection maybe?

To love a fellow Jew, just the same as you....

To see a Seminary where the students interact on all levels of outreach...regardless of politics.Remember, Chabad is not a party in Israel, bc the Rebbe wanted ALL Jews to be connected to Chabad.

A different Goldie Tennenhaus
As Co director of Chabad of South Broward we were proud to have Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz in our headquarters. We certainly hope she was inspired by young and new and strong generation of Chabad women in our Chaya Aydel seminary. We took the opportunity to thank her for her efforts on behalf of the Rubashkin family. At the same time she expressed her surprise at the beauty of our women's mikvah and I definitely got her attention when I told her going to the mikvah is the gift that all Jewish women and only Jewish women give to their children. As we walked her to the car I reminded her that as a Jew in the high position she has that she must remember that her job is to make a kiddush Hashem. I think the Rebbe would be happy with the visit.

Looking good.Can't wait to cu:)

Theres nothing like it!
(5/22/2013 10:13:44 PM)
For sure the Rebbe is shepping Nachas!
What is our job as Lubavitchers, but to reach out to EVERY Jew! - Inspire, warm, and invite back. I am sure that the warmth the girls and seminary gave will be a lasting impression for her. Hopefully more so than these inappropriate comments! Are we not Lubavitchers! Is this not our instruction from the Rebbe?!

ואתם תלוקטו לאחד אחד
Since when do we pick and choose which Jews to be mekarev go Tennenhaus's and Lebovics's
(5/23/2013 8:48:39 PM)
Lubavitchers need to follow the rebbes ways
It seems that some people perfer the easy way out and just write somebody off, and not have to do with them (the way of some other chassidim) rather then doing things the way the rebbe would which is to speak the אמת and at the same time try to have an influence on every yid, יתמו חטאים ולא חוטאים, Boruch HaShem the shluchim seem to know what the משלח expected from them, moshiach now!
(5/23/2013 10:44:37 PM)
(5/24/2013 12:53:03 AM)
Think like a chossid of the Rebbe
Is chabad not about bringing all jews back?!
How dare people say these comments. Dont you think like a lubavitcher??
I am so happy that they brought this yid to speak, it caused a big kiddush hashem and im sure she was very touched.
These girls are learning not only from their teachers but also from life experiences. Kol hakavod to the Tennenhauses and Lebovics and Shwartz. I cannot wait for the day when I"YH i will send my children to this seminary.
