Mrs. Chana Friedman, OBM

Mrs. Chana Friedman, longtime resident of Crown Heights and beloved Morah at Mosdos Day Care, passed away.

By COLlive reporter

Mrs. Chana Friedman, longtime resident of Crown Heights and wife of R' Bentzion Friedman, passed away on Tuesday, Sivan 12, 5773.

She was the daughter of Harav Hagaon R' Yitzchok Dovid Sholom Mintzberg, Mashgiach Ruchni of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin in Poland, who perished in the Holocaust, and Rebbetzin Shaina Gitel Mintzberg, who survived the war and emigrated to Crown Heights with her daughters.

After her marriage to R' Bentzion Friedman, they spent a few years as Chabad Shluchim in Springfield, Massachusetts, later moving back to Crown Heights, where she and her husband both entered the field of Chinuch.

Mrs. Friedman was a longtime beloved Morah at the Mosdos Day Care Center in Crown Heights, where she taught until her recent illness.

"She was well known for her kindness to all, and she raised a beautiful family, each of whom is known for being balei Hachnosas Orchim," a relative told COLlive.

She is survived by her husband, R' Bentzion Friedman, and children: Rabbi Dovid Friedman - Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. Feige Rubashkin - Crown Heights, Mrs. Suri Ciment - Crown Heights, Mrs. Shainy New - Melbourne, Australia, and Rabbi Yossi Friedman - Crown Heights.

She is also survived by her sisters Mrs. Sarah Kempinsky and Mrs. Leah Charney of Boro Park, and Mrs. Miriam Slavin of Crown Heights.

The levaya will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 9:45 am and passing by 770 at 10:45 am.

So special
She was such a special woman. She taught my brother years ago in mosdos day care and she was one of the most caring sensitive teachers ever. My family was quiete poor and my brother didn't have clean nice clothing. One day she came to visit my mother and brother with a special present. There were two brand new beautiful outfits with matching socks in a nice gift box. She gave it to my brother with such love and nobody felt that she did it out of pity but rather outbid pure love and care. I was very little about nine years old and I will never forget that incident and it made such a strong impact on me and I learned a lesson on how to treat others with such dignity and respect. She will surely be missed.

She was the epitomy of grace, dignity, refined, moral compass, humility, tznius, abundant ahavas yisroel, regal, and above all dugma chaya for one who came in contact with her. This is how we pray our daughters emulate.

A special woman
Mrs. Friedman was an exceptionally kind and regal woman. She was always put together and dressed so elegantly, she looked so much younger than she really was. That is why a couple of of comments ask her age. We worked together at Mosdoth and when I heard how old she was I was shocked. She looked so much younger and worked with the energy, determination, and enthusiasm of someone so much younger. My son was in her class and loved her. She was soft, warm and loving to the children. She had the class organized and neat and took such care of the plants. Although she was much older than myself, (I am her daughter's classmate), she treated me as an equal. She was warm, friendly, and caring, never uttering an unkind remark about anyone and she everyone feel good about themselves. She made me feel as if I was making her day when it was really the other way around. I will truly miss her.

Yes, she was one of my sons' morahs from those glorious years at Mosdos day care center, but she was very much my "morah" as well--whatever she taught my boys, she taught me as well.......and, as an over-whelmed BT without the support of biological family, she became part of my Crown Hts family..........thank you for everything, Morah Chana, from me and the boys
