Chaya Mushka Gopin of Lugansk, Ukraine, was declared the winner of the competition “Jerusalem – the center of the Jewish nation,” sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Education.
Hundreds of students from 40 Jewish schools across the Former Soviet Union took part in the learning marathon that had them compete to be a finalist in their school, then participating in a national test.
12 students from Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the Baltic states made it to the 3 hour final round which was held in Kiev, where they were challenged once more to show their knowledge of Jerusalem’s rich history and meaning.
After rigorous testing with oral and written questions, the judges announced Gopin as the first place winner. She is a student of Jewish Day School Beit Menachem – Or Avner Chabad in Lugansk, run by her parents, Shluchim Rabbi Shalom and Chana Gopin.
But the young Shlucha amazed the judges and audience even further when she gave up her prize – a flight ticket to Israel – to the runner-up, a Jewish girl from Odessa who had never been to the Holy land.
Chaya Mushka, you are an amazing role model to us all. Kol Hakavod!!
you are amazing!!!!
wow thats so nice!
i don’t think i would be able to do something like that
What a special girl, If there were more like you moshiach will be here.
I don’t think I’d be able to give it up, and I’ve been there before! I love Israel! Kol Hakavod!
such nice ahavas yisroel. nachas!
wow, im so tuached, this is true ahavas yisroel
I wouldn’t be proud of that. It all comes from what the child sees at home. If your child sees parents who are giving and a bit selfless they accept that as the normal way of life. It’s never too late to teach them (naturally, by example)
its so good to hear that we have very nice children G-D will bless her with 100 times more what a mitzvah
love you chaya!
your cousin
may you always be blessed and be a light to everyone! so inspired to see such a kind mitzvah
What an incredible girl!! You can tell from this story that her parents are such mentchen to have raised someone like that and I wish them a sach nachas from Chaya Mushka!
Please, please, never say never. These things become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Your kids possess a Jewish soul. For sure they could do such a thing.
this touched my heart!
דאס איז א קידוש ה

Wow!!!

we should all learn to be a giver not a taker.
kol hakovad.
Kiddush Hashem
my kids would never never do that. kol hakovod!!!
One can gain a giving nature. Kol Hakovod!
