Man Fulfills Grandmother's Wish

A 70-year-old Jewish man traveled to the Alter Rebbe's grave in Haditch to finally fulfill a wish made by his grandmother.

In Haditch we celebrated the Bris of a 70 year old Jew from Sumy, Ukraine. The Bris took place right next to the tziyon of the Alter Rebbe where the man received the name of his grandfather, Boruch, the same name as the father of the Alter Rebbe.

The new Shliach in Haditch, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Teichman, has helped many Jews from Carpathian Ukraine to receive a Bris Mila and has begun arranging Brissen for the Jews of the Haditch region.

This emotional Bris brings to closure a story that began 70 years ago. the grandmother desperately wanted to give her grandson a Bris but the mother, who was a Communist party member, resisted.

At the time it seemed Communism had won, but, with the help of G-d, exactly 70 years later, Judaism won and the grandson was entered into the covenant of Avraham Avinu by the Shliach of Chabad close to the Tzion of the Alter Rebbe.

The Kiddush cup used in the ceremony is also by Divine providence part of this historical event. On the eve of the Bris, this man gave the Kiddush cup to the Shliach. It had belonged to the Jewish community synagogue in Sumi before the Holocaust and was given to his grandfather by the rabbi of the Shul before his passing in 1976.

The grandfather gave it to this man telling him, "keep this cup with you, the day will come when you will know whom to give it to."

The Shliach Rabbi Teichman gave the cup to the Shliach in Sumi, Rabbi Yechiel Shlomo Levitansky who returned it to its proper place in the Sumi Synagogue.

the Sandak was the Mayor of the northern Israeli village Meron Mordechai Halperin, who flew in from the Holy Land to have this merit at the Tziyun of the Alter Rebbe.

The Bris was performed by the Mohel Rabbi Jacob Gaisenovitz, a mohel from Brit Yosef Yitzchak which is headed by Rabbi Yaron Amit.
