Security Beefed Up Near 770

New York Post is reporting that the NYPD increased security at city-wide synagogues, including 770 Eastern Parkway.

The NYPD increased security at synagogues yesterday as tensions ratcheted up in the Mideast — and New York Jews prayed for Israel.

In Brooklyn's Crown Heights, a mobile police command unit was parked in front of the Central Lubavitch Synagogue on Eastern Parkway and marked police cars were at subway stations nearby.

"I hope that our president will stay true to his support for Israel," said Yossi, 24, a yeshiva student who was at the synagogue.

There has been "no specific threat in New York,’" NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said yesterday.

But as a precaution, the department "increased its presence’" at Israeli facilities including the Israeli mission to the United Nations and its consulate, as well as some synagogues through the weekend, he said.

Are we pretending that Hamas poses a serious military threat to Israel? Is it then safe to assume that those that believe this also believed that Iraq was a major threat to the Unites States?

As a longtime supporter of both the Israelis and the Palestinians, I pray for peace between them. Israel can have what it wants by simply returning to the Oslo Accords. We all know this. Peace is within reach for both sides, and the world would celebrate if they could both just come together and agree on what everyone already knows are the future borders for both states. WHY - why must Israel continue to insist on violence? They hold all the cards. If Yitzhak Rabin were the Prime Minister today instead of Netanyahu, it would all be over in a matter of weeks and both sides would have peace.

you sound like an arab you probably are one that is why YOU believe peace can be achieved. the more israel gives the more they want its never enough. if israel would send the same amount of missilels to the arabs the world would hear about it not the other way around. israel needs to defend itself and and its not going to be peace if they give more. history has proved it over and over.

You seem to have forgotten something: Israel left Gaza, but did the Palestinians put their aid money into making a better life for the people? NO THEY DIDN'T - THEY BOUGHT AMMUNITION WITH WHICH TO BOMBARD ISRAEL. Every time Israel has conceeded, the Palestinians have attacked harder. PEACE to the Palestinians means no Israel. which we know will never happen. AM YISRAEL HAI! Regards from The Holy Land.

The Arabs do not want peace. They want pieces of Israel and will not rest until they have all of it. It has been proven over and over again. Rabin did try to give back and so did Barak and so did others. It never works b/c Arabs just does not want Israel do exist. Come out of your dreamworld.

I won't be so brash as to call you an idiot, but your comment was extremely inconsiderate AND uneducated. You don't need to be a genius to see that the Arabs will never be satisfied. You give them one chunk of Isreal and they'll want more.
Go check your facts and see how giving away land worked out for us.

Oh, and about Israel insisting on violence? That would be laughable if this wasn't such a serious issue. Do you think Israel wants to be bombed with missiles right now? If yes, then fine, I don't mind calling you an idiot.
