My question to you is…
What would you rather, food stamps or a pay check?

If your answer is food stamps, then go ahead and vote Obama.
But if you are like most good people that rather a pay check, then there is no question that Mitt Romeny is your man!

This is starting to get embarrassing. With all due respect to you. I know you are looking out for Yeshivas and Frum families etc… But this is the very mentality that is destroying our society. Too many people are more concerned about how much $ they can take from others (through government) than they are about how much $ they can earn. Let’s remember, there is no FREE $. Government has to take it from someone else to give it to you. Currently over 45% of Americans pay no federal income tax. As soon as that # reaches 51%, they… Read more »

You are a propagandist. Here are the stubborn facts:
(taken from http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf)

From 2003 to 2008 (6 year period), Bush gave Israel nearly 8 Billion Dollars From 2009 to 2011 (3 year period), Obama gave Israel nearly one billion Dollars. Incidentally, Bush gave very generously until 2006 when the democrats took over the house from GOP and diminished aid to Israel substantially.

By the way, the bulk of financial aid is earmarked by congress, so Obama per se, gives Israel nothing.

Um, Romney hasn’t released or proposed any “tax plan”. It would be nice if he did, but so far he hasn’t. I challenge you to find one. So I wonder which “tax plan” you (or the “left-wing Citizens for Tax Justice”) are referring to. Perhaps it’s a compilation of random statements Romney made and they took the liberty of creating a “tax plan” on Romney’s behalf. But one thing is certain, Romney never proposed to raise taxes on 95% of Americans or any of the other gibberish the “left-wing Citizens for Tax Justice” is putting out there. Come on people,… Read more »

Like most Jews, I’ll be voting for Obama. I love Jews and I’m glad we have a president who gives so much support to Israel. Poster number 30, money talks, and Obama has given more of it than anyone, even in an economy that Bush ran into the ground.

If you are a lifelong democrat and you’ll support your candidate no matter what, then this blog won’t cure you. But at the very least, you owe the rest of us some intellectual honesty: 1. Israel. We can no longer measure the level of US support for Israel by financial aid. Thankfully Israel’s economy is doing fine (better than the US economy actually). Obama has done more harm towards Israel’s standing in the region by openly and unconditionally embracing the muslim world and shunning Netanyahu and Israel in general. This is a lengthy conversation, but it’s a difficult argument to… Read more »

Mitt Romney’s Tax Plan A Boon For The Rich Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s tax plan would decrease taxes on those making $1 million or more by an average of $250,000, according to arecent study by the left-wing Citizens for Tax Justice. The study also notes that individuals making $500,000 and above would receive a tax break of approximately $50,000 on average. “If Romney kept his pledge to avoid increasing the deficit (aside from the enormous deficit increase resulting from the Bush tax cuts), then someone will have to face a net increase in their taxes,” the report says.… Read more »

I’m voting for Obama, just like I did in 2008. I’m tired of seeing my fellow Lubavitchers spread the lie that Obama is bad for Israel, when his adminstration has given unprecedented levels financial and military support to Israel. His talk about borders isn’t anything we didn’t hear from George W. Bush. And social programs like food stamps (which the Rebbe told Shirley Chisholm to create) and Medicare are part of a civilized, humane society. I can’t believe that G-d-fearing Jews would try to end them.

you must be kidding. You’re going to put your trust in government to care for the people? I don’t know whether obama’s interests are noble or devious, but one thing is certain, government is the least qualified entity to execute anything properly. you are correct that caring for our fellow and especially the elderly is a basic torah and human principle. that is exactly why we could count on EACH OTHER to care for one another. Government just turns that “basic human principle” into just one more buearocracy (i.e. they squander 90 cents of every dollar that is supposed to… Read more »

I completely agree!

Romney/Ryan is the best ticket if you want your healthcare to be saved, as well as employment rate to go up, and enabling tax cuts!

to #19 your comment is not just insulting as stated but bears no halachic or intellectual heft. Obama 2012!
August 12, 2012 10:21 pm

i blv society needs to help those who like the elderly, its basic torah principle. its basic HUMAN principle. i will be voting obama, i may not agree with all of his policies, but atleast he is honest and not a lie and cheat, and shill, for every richy mcrich..

Romney/Ryan may be the best ticket for the Frum world
August 12, 2012 8:23 pm

Instead of lamenting the fact that Ryan wants to cut back on entitlements (which we genuinely can’t afford), let’s consider the fact that a Romney/Ryan administration with a republican house and by some miracle a republican senate, could give us the best chance at instituting school vouchers. That means that the government gives each child a fixed amount of money that can be spent on the school of their choice. If that happens, it’ll far outweigh any reduction in other entitlement programs.

Maybe Ezra Friedlander can start working it.

The “welfare problem” certainly predate obama, but he threw into turbo charge. We simply can’t afford it as a society. The private sector under Obama stinks. Sure SOME corporations are doing fine (um crony capitalism etc). But the unemployment # was about 6% when obama took over. It’s now over 8% (and has been for about 3 years). As far as I know, most of Crown Heights residents don’t own corporations. We need an administration that will bring prosperity and JOBS back to the US… As far as reductions to welfare is concerned, let’s be clear. Neither Ryan nor Romney… Read more »

August 12, 2012 7:25 pm

True. Welfare is bad no matter if it was initiated by LBJ FDR or BHO. The private sector has done well ONLY on wall street, not on main street. If you adjust the Dow with inflation, not the government’s numbers, but rather the real numbers, the Dow is doing awful. The only thing Obama is good for is traffic. Less people have jobs to drive to, and those who do, some cannot afford it. Look at the price of eggs, gas, meat, sugar, electricity etc. before Obama’s inauguration and then the price today. That’s the REAL inflation. The only deflation… Read more »

All of the welfare programs I have mentioned predate Obama by many years. The increase in these specific welfare expenditures under Obama are but a fraction of the US budget. The private sector has done quite well under Obama. Corporate profits are at all time highs. Look it up. This is not a defense of welfare. Boruch Hashem, I do not rely on any of the aforementioned programs. However I am well aware of the many in the community who do. Most of them work for a living, but simply can’t make ends meet. If the likes of Paul Ryan/… Read more »

August 12, 2012 5:12 pm

If the government had an unlimited suPply of cash, then there may be some merit to what you are saying. But who do you think is paying for all these benefits? Once Obama and his social policies completely obliterate the private sector, who do you think will pay for your benefits???

And precisely because of that our country is going to be in a greater and larger deficit that it finds itself now, ending in default. That is just a few years away. Then for sure the treasury will be bankrupt.

Reconcile ourselves to the now foregone conclusion that Obama will be president for the next 4 1/2 years. Rabbi’s Shem Tov, other senior shluchim, and Jewish leaders in general should do everything they can over the next 4 years to ingratiate themselves to him and his people in the hopes of gaining pardons for Rubashkin and Pollard when Obama leaves office in 2017.

socialism is unsustainable
August 12, 2012 2:39 pm

Mr. 12: When you eliminate prosperity, then eventually the biggest socialsits will be forced to end socialism. Socialism is a ponzi scheme that eventually collapses. Blaming Ryan for targeting socialism is like blaming Harry Markopolos for targeting Madoff. Sure Madoff brought prosperity and livelihood to all he was involved with, until the house of cards collapsed. Something too good to be true is too good to be true. Free everything os a house of cards and will eventually fail. The only road to prosperity is when people know that their success will be rewarded and not punished. Freedom is infectious… Read more »

Nonsense.

Plenty of people in Crown Heights were relying on government programs long before Obama, or even Bush came into office.

The idea that the economy will improve to the point where a needy family will be able to afford the full cost of private health insurance, food, and education, is a pipe dream.

Do you have any idea how much money and benefits some people receive? Between Medicaid, SNAP, Head Start, and the EIC, we are talking about more than $20,000 in concrete value. All the economic improvement in the world will not compensate for that.

With the help of God, the Romney – Ryan administration, and a smaller government, the ecconomy will improve and many more Crown heightsers will become employed and will no longer need to rely on government aid.

voting for your own interests.
August 12, 2012 11:20 am

Crown Heights would be fools to vote for this ticket. Think life is financially hard now- you have seen nothing yet.

Well, I was undecided before, now I am fully decided. This is a very scary ticket.

Not sure
August 12, 2012 11:09 am

Paul Ryan’s budget calls for drastic cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and Head Start, and the elimination of the Earned Income Credit — programs that many families in Crown Heights rely on.

August 12, 2012 12:06 am

Though I had other favorites, I was relieved to watch his acceptance speech in which he came out swinging against Obama. Romney doesn’t seem to now how to fight, so thank G-d it seems like Ryan can do some heavy swinging, thus making up for Romney’s deficiency in that regard.
