Well done guys!
Shmulik Levy and Nati Abukasis, owners of the bustling Mendy’s Delicatessen on the ground floor of the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights, are going upscale.
In keeping with the Mendy’s brand which has been famous since the 90’s, the Mendy’s on Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue will open an extension like their original counterpart in Midtown Manhattan.
Levy and Abukasis are leasing the adjacent room to their eatery – previously a Judaica store – for full-service dining with waiter service for those looking for an elegant steakhouse experience.
“Our customers were always asking us to open a nice, upscale place, where they could enjoy fine dining and elegant atmosphere,” Levy told COLlive.com, ahead of Sunday’s opening.
“Our customers love to order our food to go, but not everyone wants to sit down and eat in a cafeteria style-place. They wanted more,” he admitted.
The menu will offer items such as short ribs, Roumanian tenderloin and honey glazed tongue. They will also offer all kinds of burgers, shwarma and grilled and Israeli fare along with their original deli.
In the near future they will offer wine and beer as well.
“We want to create an enjoyable place to eat out with family and friends or to get together with business associates,” Levy says.
He said they are hoping to become the go-to restaurant for the many visitors to the neighborhood – home to Lubavitch World Headquarters located right across the street – as the now closed Esther’s Deli was.
“No need to go out of the neighborhood. We’ve got it right here in Crown Heights.”
Interior design by Susana Berenstein
The art work is stunning. I have seen Mrs. Katzenelson’s work at various exhibitions in NYC and in NJ, Crown Heights is privileged to have her pieces in display. The interior design is also very commendable!
Mazel Tov to Nati and partner. Nati is also an awesome soccer player as displayed at Soccer for Harmony at Lefferts Park!
Picture 2, painting to the far right, is it just me or is that a screenshot from “Mashiach’s Donkey” the new agent emes film?
i know i looks nice… but can it really beat out other places… i mean competition is strong.. you all the places in cali montreal isreal that are really great! but its a good location right next to 770 all the israeli guys can CHAP a steak
number 18!! what is coming next? i hope its something affordable .
All these new restaurants are not good for my diet.
Are those pictures really needed as they gaze down on people eating succulent tongue?!

i thought Sunday is a fast day?
This looks absolutely gorgeous, and the food looks delish! My only qualm is how they’ve packed so many tables in – the ambience of an upscale restaurant is almost if not as important as the food, and having no breathing room / hearing your neighbor’s conversation in your ear doesn’t look too relaxing.
Oh, you mean the Shar-Haboar!
something bigger coming to ch after the summer
Will they have availability Shabbat Sheva brachos catering? or shabbat prepaid reserved seating restaurant for us visiting from out of town when we stay at the Presidential Suites?
really looking forward to finally having a good fleishing sit down place to go for a enjoyable meal
sholem
Hatzlocho Rabbah Umuflogo, may you know unforeseen success, Lema’aloh min Hameshua, Begur, Betoiv Hanirah Vehaniglah, your big loving bro.
All those paintings look like raizel Katzenelson from Morristown’s work. Are they all hers?
They are all so vibrant and beautiful

Beautiful! Looking forward to trying it out…I’m sure we will not be disappointed! Shmuly, you are the best! You are an incredible mentch, and give great customer service! Wishing you much hatzlacha in all your endeavors!
BH. MAZAL TOV, ZEH HAKOTON GODOL YIHYEH, KSHEIM SHENICHNAS KEIN YIKONEIS. HATZLACHA RABAH MUCH SUCCESS. LECHAIM. Thanks for being so close. With Love, Zeida and Bobba.
i think it should be more seperate from the “cafeteria” to ensure it has a serious feel; so the noise and people in adjacent room do not come in much, etc.
bema shemutar lockh!
the food is great and this room is also used for a sheva brochos but its a very small room im not sure why they try and stuff so many tables, its really hard to eat with so many tables and people otherwise its worth a try
Levy family admirer
I was at the hachnosas sefer torah in London sunday and your Brother Mendy did your whole family proud.
The London Lubavitch community enjoyed it immensely and was a true simchah for chabad and all the chasidishe family who came in force.
did you mean thats its going to be an isreali steak house?
Will they host Sheva Brachos?
Hatzlocho Rabbo and Kol tuv in your new endeavour. It looks very inviting.

That was a nice gift shop. I’m happy to see a new restaurant opening up, but the loss of a very nice gift shop is felt also.
Looks delish!!! Wish I was in CH right now!!
I think this is fantastic, we have waited a long time to have a nice place to sit and eat in the heart of Crown Heights.
Thank you Mendy’s
YUM! LOOKS GOOOOD!
