Lubavitcher Was Beaten, Robbed

A 36 year-old described as a "hasidic male" was beaten and robbed in a possible hate crime Thursday evening near Sterling Street and New York Avenue in Crown Heights.

The following was received from the NYPD 71st Precinct:

Today, April 19, 2012 at approximately 6:30 PM a thirty-six year old Hasidic male was beaten and robbed near the corner of Sterling Street and New York Avenue.

The victim sustained bruises and swelling to the face during the incident.

Statements made by the unidentified perpetrator have caused the police department to treat this incident as a possible Bias Incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Hate Crimes Task Force at 646-610-5267.

There will be increased patrols and presence in the area in an attempt to apprehend the perpetrator and prevent further incidents.

There seems to be a lot of things going on in Southern "Crown Heights" starting with some helicopter action before Pesach. I've noticed more police presence. The victim should have a refuah shlaimah.

Why is it a "hate Crime" .. Cant it just be seen as a Mugging . If you walk in the street on your phone , with your wallet exposed late at night you will be mugged and if your being mugged I am almost certain the person mugging you is not going to be calling you nice names...This is not a HATE CRIME!!! People protect yourselves and don't walk with all your stuff for everyone to see....

I was there

I was on the scene moments after it happened and the witnesses I've speken to where shaken up by the fact that the victim was beaten in the head for almost 3 minutes while mothers and chirldren where outside playing and the perp continued to beat this poor fellow even as they where screening for him to stop. Ch!!! This is a wake up cal!!! We must show NYPD and city hall that we will NOT allow this to continue!!! May we share only good news, Umen!!

YES IT WAS A HATE CRIME - The perp took hardly anything and beat the yid so badly - the perp kept saying "YOU F****G JEW"... YOU F****G JEW" ... YOU F****G JEW" ...YOU F****G JEW" and beat him over and over --- that my friend is an ATTACK!!! a robber takes something hits a few times then leaves ... not to a point that that this ANIMAL did ....

NEW YORK & STERLING !!!!!!

This location is one short block from the 71 st precinct. It does not bide well that these human bodies with inherent animalistic traits have no fear of perpetrating these acts within such close proximity to the precinct. Perhaps if the police officers would focus on crime instead of being occupied with seat belts, cellular phones, and other minor infractions, we would get the protection that is due us, and for which our taxes pay so dearly for.

This is a horrible story, now everyone can continue to write articles, and demand that the police and local politicians do something. OR you can stop and think, how can you defend your family, well there are self defense classes on going in the community, the prices are low and the training is priceless so don't delay.

Nothing will ever be changed. As crown heights has no guts to fight back. Me and my friends have been studying as well as teaching martial arts for years. Funny how non of my friends ever get beaten. If u want to see change, then BE it. Start taking your life into your own hands and not rely on a high school dropout called a cop.

Moving out of CH is not the answer.

In all honesty - this goes around everywhere - plus times are tough so you have more desperate people.

The hateful comments in this attack is just mindless rubbish from a nerd, a loser, a crackpot, a druggie... you get the picture.

Yup it sucks - best bet learn self defense or be careful, extra careful - walk in groups - think positive.

By not demanding so if we where all to make a demestration out side 71st and make a fuss we will get protection but some political want to play the nice guy game with the police. The police know this and must, I repeat MUST charge the perp with hate crime, much more serious than assault. Cr Hts residents MUST protest in front of 71st precinct this week. Witnesses heard the creature shout anti semitic slurs while attacking a Jew. Sounds pretty possible to me- whether or not anyone has the decency to admit it..

7 Mitzvos Classes will NOT HELP!

Sadly, many of Brooklyn's underclass of bnei Cham do not have the mental capacity to understand the 7 Mitzvos. They are born to drug addicted mothers and violent fathers who are usually absent by the time they hit one year of age.

I don't get it. From what I hear, the guy cursed the victim for being a Jew while he was robbing him. Doesn't that make it a hate crime?? Why would anyone not think that its a hate crime? What are you talking about? Regular muggings do not elicit calling specific names or slurs out over and over, nor do they tale the least valuable item from the victim. It was probably a mugging AND a hate crime .
