With the storm raging outside Monday night, the atmosphere was calm indoors, as two New York politicians met with the Board of Crown Heights Jewish Community Council (CHJCC) and with two members of the Crown Heights PAC.
NY State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli expressed his fondness for Crown Heights, as well as his desire to assist the community in any way possible.
He met with CHJCC’s Zaki Tamir, Yossi Hackner , Fishel Brownstein and the council’s Executive Director Eli Cohen.
One new initiative that DiNapoli described was the NY State Small Business Development Center, which can offer considerable. He also spoke proudly about the efforts of his office in divesting the State from companies that improperly support Iran.
The meeting was also joined later by Crown Heights’ own State Assembly Member Karim Camara.
Camara discussed with CHJCC Board members possibilities for the Jewish Community to benefit from the recent developments in state funded private schools.
The PAC was represented at the meeting by PAC members Moshe Malamud and Chanina Sperlin. Also present was activist Eli Slavin.
Like the Comptroller, Camara is seeking the support of the Jewish community in his reelection bid on November 2. The PAC members indicated that they would be issuing endorsements closer to election day.
R”L, one of the candidates seeking our CHJCC endorsement was also not wearing a suit — Karim Camara.
I was very surprised to see this, as Mr. Camara is usually impeccably eidel (l’havdil).
I don’t understand how Mr. Camara could have thought this would communicate anything but a “casual” attitude about the endorsement he seeks from the Jews of Crown Heights!
Regardless of how much class he oozes for lack of a better term. A gentleman always wears a suit, especially in matters of politics, and representation.
He is the only one in the room beside the camera man to not wear a suit.
on that note, We still LOVE Yossi…Keep it up!
thanks to the renewed leadership. happy to see everyone sitting at the same table and bringing high level politicians to our neighborhood. thanks to all our businessmen for taking time out of their busy schedules to help out.
Do NOT vote for NY State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli!! He invests a lot of the NY pension fund money in ARAB Countries and is no friend of the Jews. It is embarrassing that our community leaders can endorse a man like this. He is incompetent and a fool. Even Mayor Bloomberg (who isn’t mixing into NY political races) has endorsed the other candidate : Republican Harry Wilson. If you support government unions, their SKY-HIGH pension packages, and Arab countries then vote for Tom DiNapoli, however if support smart, fiscally responsible people, vote NY State Comptroller for Harry Wilson. Shame on… Read more »
Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.. Chlanina is yesterday’s news.
Is the hero of Crown Heights. He don’t need no suit – he oozes class.
Chanina and his assistant Eli Slavin know all the pols and the camera angles. He will remain our powerful entry to Albany, Washington, and City Hall. Nobody in Anash can equal his political prowess and knowledge. Next the White House!
Yossi does a great job, by his demeanor, smarts and language.
Besides he, looks great.
Y Hackner can you please put on a suit to look somewhat professional as you represent the entire community.
What have they done for us so far?
Depressed neighborhoods still look depressed even after 50 years of politicians asking for our support. Can anyone mention 3 neighborhoods, that have gone from depressed to thriving due to GOV help?
Harlem is still Harlem (except for the section where private enterprise took over). Brownsville is still brownsville. Crown Heights is Still CH.
Maybe they keep us down, so we can beg for more; and we keep thinking they will actually help!
